Through Their parTicipaTion in communiTy aTTairs, The MHS sTudenTs learn To serve and To share. ln The Hi-Y YouTh ln GovernmenT program, The boys Tilled The various ciTy poliTical posiTions and presided over The municipal TuncTions, Thus learn- ing by doing. Civics classes also sTudied The TuncTions of a ciTy by inTer- viewing various oTTicials and Taking parT in a mock Trial wiTh The sTudenTs serving as The iury. ThaT iT is beTTer To give Than To receive The MHS sTudenT learns in various ways. A giTT is remembered wheTher iT be a giTT oT Time spenT in helping oThers less TorTunaTe or a presenT To an underprivileged child. The Tirnn hand oT MHS was exTended To The communiTy in The Torm oT FuTure Nurses aiding in The AugusTana speech class Tor children. Warm hearTs made pos- sible The annual ChrisTmas parTy where underprivileged children's TaiTh in SanTa Claus was rewarded as The jolly genT presenTed Them wiTh giTTs, ParTicipaTing in Junior Red Cross and serving in and con- TribuTing To communiTy drives molded The characTer oT The sTu- denTs To TuncTion wiTh The communiTy as a uniT. Sharing responsi- biliTy oT The Kiwanis PeanuT Day sale, The Jaycees' Pancake supper, and The muscular dysTrophy campaigns, gave The Ml-lS'ers a chance To serve and work wiTh The communiTy. Junior Achievement wiTh iTs miniaTure corporaTions, gave The sTudenT a chance To meeT The indusTrial and proTessional com- muniTy on a common basis. To meeT and discuss, design and prof duce, sell and divide proTiTs, were noT The only obiecTives oT This organizaTion. MeeTing The people of The communiTy and developing a spiriT OT consideraTion Tor oThers, Their needs and Their views, made The venTure a communiTy proiecT. . . . and Tive Thousand Teenagers meT and lisTened as Jesse Owens spoke. The Quad-CiTy YouTh Rally, held in The Tield house, proved successTul in uniTing The young people in a spiriT OT broTherhood and dedicaTion oT service To The welfare oT mankind. Above all, God molds a model communiTy. The Holy Week Services gave sTudenTs a chance To reconTirm Their TaiTh in God and rekindle The desire To be a good and TaiThTul servanT.
