We Learn to Work Together in Harmony Chaos reigned as l475 summer, sunfanned sTudenTs crowded inTo The worn MHS halls for The firsf day of classes. The MedalisT, All-American school newspaper, The Line O'Type, welcomed Them wiTh news of freshman impressions of high school, addifions To The Teaching sTaTf, and predicTions for The year. ln The feminine sTudenT division, The Girls' AThleTic Associafion, The Home Economics Club, and Y-Teens greeTed prospecTive members aT The annual welcome picnics. Sporfs-wise The sTu- denTs were looking Toward homecoming. Their hopes, however, were dashed as The Alleman Pioneers, subsTiTuTing for The EasT Moline PanThers, vicfims of Asian flu, downed The Maroon gridsTers in frigid folly. ParenTal pranks highlighTed The family nighTs aT moTher- daughTer, dad-daughTer GAA playnighTs, while represenTaTive language clubs-French, LaTin, and Spanish-meT To discuss and learn more of foreign culfure and cusToms, such as The Tra- diTional breaking of The pinaTa. Ending The Tall acTiviTies calendar, Hi-Y organizafions prepared To Take over The ciTy for a day, as The local YouTh in Govern- menT program maTerialized. Full of The YuleTide spiriT, The music deparTmenT presenTed The annual ChrisTmas vespers, and The LOT-STudenT Congress SanTa Claus presenfed Toys To under- privileged children in The Share Joys, Buy Toys campaign. Fun-packed holidays faded as The final semesTer exams filled The minds of sTudenTs during The firsT monTh of The new year. Beginning The second semesTer, preparaTions were made for The producTion of Brigadoon, The lasT musical producTion presenTed in The old building. ChanTs of On To sTaTe, Moline! echoed around The school as The Maroons advanced To The secTional division of The sTaTe baskefball TournamenT. AnnouncemenT, Senior Ball, baccalaureaTe, commencemenT, and Swing-ouT commiTTees were chosen To prepare for senior gradu- aTion exercises, as rehearsals began for The senior ADC producTion of Arabian Daze wiTh TalenT varying from Ed Sullivan ll To l-landmaidens of Scheherazadf' Final adieus spoken, hopes and wishes for The fuTure exTended, The sTudenTs parfed for varied summer acTiviTies, ending The Term for The old building as a place of high school learning. Language clubs offer many hours of enioyable acTiviTy and increase The sTudenTs' knowledge and undersTanding of 'foreign peoples. Many hours were spenT by boys ouT for sporTs, affording many exciTing hours for The sTudenT body in cheer- ing Them on To vicTory. 3? h Decking The halls in The ChrisTmas Taking parT in a Typical play rehearsal are The members of The casT for Briga- 5P'r'l' fe mfmlffrs of The Sfuqenl Con' doo,-L gress, hanging The Tree, which sTood in TronT of The aucliTorium.

Home economics, boTh as a class and an organizaTion, oTTered The girls The opporTuniTy To become beTTer acquainTed wiTh homemaking skills. The Tamily living courses soughT To insTrucT Them in preparing Tor a home and Tamily. For The male porTion of The sTudenT body, The indusTrial and Technical knowledge oT The insTrucTors coupled wiTh work in 'lThe shop. oTTered The boys a basic undersTanding oT a Trade useTul To Them. FuTures in business adminisTraTion required sTudy in The basic classes oT bookkeeping, accounTing, maThemaTics, and The Tech- nical courses in Typing, shorThand, TranscripTion, and oTTice prac- Tice. To pracTice whaT was TaughT, a class in disTribuTive educaTion required The sTudenT To Tind and mainTain a iob oT his choice and To reporT on This posiTion and any advancemenT or Trouble en- counTered. As The Time grew near To begin Thinking oT advanced sTudy, The college day program oTTered sTudenTs an opporTuniTy To meeT and discuss wiTh The various college represenTaTives, re- quiremenTs and TaciliTies oT The varied insTiTuTions. The Time Tinally arrived when The hours oT sTudy would pay off as scholarship TesTs were adminisTered. WiTh The Tinal reporT card and plans Tor The TuTure brighT, The sTudenTs, parTing To proceed on The road To advanced sTudy and pracTical applicaTions oT The knowledge gained in seeking Their TuTure, meT The TuTure conTidenTly.
