Miss Barbara Garst, their energetic coach whipped the debate squad into shape for the subject Sociahzed Medicine ', between her many play re hearsals A common sight on a busy Saturday morning was to see the debate stacks of source books in one corner of the library while the third act of a cur rent play was laboring under the eagle eye of their director in another one The negative team suffered a loss at the beginning of the season when the oiiice decreed that Lee Mousely brilliant orator of the preceding year, was in eligible because a semester in trade school totalled his semesters up to six and a half but he managed to chairmen the home debates and to assist the coach with squad training The affirmative team was headed by Frank Sollo, another capable speaker of last season Augustana college held a debate tourna ment before the conference contests started, which constituted one of the best practices of the semester and gave much needed experience to a few of the squad 1n1t1ates The series of four Northwest Conference debates were rounded oil' with an even score defeat ed Monmouth lost to Galesburg, de feated East Moline, and lost to Rock Island Debate S9 Marjorie Baumgarten Lloyd Engl Myrna Fxsch Victory Pea Rueck Russell johnso er Leo Henrxck Rxchard Pe Frank S ll , . . . ,, . . 1 f . . , - ' e 0 team concentrating heavily on their as 7 , - Lee Mousel
