Forenslcs opened w1th the selectlon of the glrls declamatlon team Ten g1rls were entered 1n the local contest, and the lucky SIX were chosen from a wealth of eager mater1al Carol Nelson, June Leeper and Thada Benbrook captured the iirst three places 1n the order named MarJor1e Batchelor, Helen Mledke and Jeannette Blomgren were the other three successful contestants Three traged1es ' Paul1ne Pavlovna ' The Eyes of the Bl1nd, and Humor esque and three comedles Aunt Elnora's Hero ' ' Patron's Day at the V1llage School, and Buy a Dog Lady'7 caused aud1ences to expenence both laughs and sobs In the Trlangu lar clashes w1th East Mol1ne and Rock Island, Mol1ne won the former and lost the latter, but 1n both the Maroon con testants galned 1nd1v1dual honors I these contests June Leeper a Jumor, as representatlve to the new Northwest Conference at Galesburg On the way to Galesburg, June was very calm unt1l she was W1th1n ten m1les of Galesburg Then, as Mr La1n 1nforms us she began to develop a moderate case of the knock1ng knees Facmg the aud1ence, however, June d1d very fine work and scared herself 1nto thlrd place Gzrls Declamatzon MJ dB Mdk C . . . , , . . , . . , ' l ! - . . - Q . , , Cl ' if CC - Q!
