1924 Track Season Forty-tive candidates answered the call issued by Coach Senneff for track and field tryouts in the spring. There was a predominance of held stars and a lack of strong track material. However, the coach, as has become his custom, speedily shaped from mediocre material a team of championship caliber. The track team garnered second place in the three major events on their calendar, the indoor invitational at Augustana, the llig Eight tourney, and the triangular between Moline, liast Moline and Rock Island. At the Augustana invitational meet Davenport carried oft lirst honors with 27 2-3 points. Moline was second with 21 1-5 points. Vic lfsterdahl was Moline's high point man, registering 8 2-3 points. Unly two Moliners were entered at the I,O111lJZ11'Cl Interscholastic meet at Galesburg. Osborne placed first in the discus throw, and Ingram annexed second place in the javelin throw. Long and hard practice put the cinder men in shape for the llig Eight. The weather was unfavorable, making any new records impossible. Rock Island captured First place after a nip-and-tuck hattle with the Maroons, which was decided only at the finish of the last eve11t. Moline annexed second place with 33 1-7 points to Rock Island's 37 3-35 points. In the State Interscholastic meet at the University of Illinois, Gsborne was the only Maroon to break into the scoring column. He garnered live points with a first in the discus throw. The last event of the season was the triangular meet held at Browning Field. Moline took second place with 61 points, while Rock Island again carried off highest honors with a total of 65 points. East Moline placed third with 18 points. Osborne established a new Tri-City record in the discus throw with an excellent toss of 119 feet, 1012 inches. 99
