Inter-Class Basketball Tourney A new idea for class basketball was advanced and carried out this year in Moline High. It was thought best to hold the boys' Interclass Baskethall Tournament in Decemher instead of having it in the Spring as has heen the custom heretofore. The main advantage in this was that it gave Coach Senneff a good line on the haskethall material for the coming haskethall season. The tournament opened on Decemher eighth and each class was represented hy two teams, the heavy-weights and the lightweights. Four heavyweight teams took the Hoor on the opening day. The sophomores opened the tournament by overcoming the seniors 13 to 9. The '27 squad showed excellent teamwork and held the lead throughout the entire game. ln the sceond com- bat, the juniors registered a score of 12 to S against the freshmen. . Tuesday saw the lightweights in possession of the court. In a fast game, the freshman team triumphed over the sophomores in a fourth overtime period 16 to 1-L. The juniors easily downed the seniors 16 to 7 in the first game of the afternoon. Decemher tenth saw the heavyweights again in action. lt was an unlucky day for freshmen and juniors, The yearlings were defeated liy the seniors I2 to Sl, and the sophomores upset the juniors to to 113. , The next afternoon was given over to the lightweight teams. .-Xftei' putting up a stiff light the freshmen were defeated hy the juniors 5 to 10 and the seniors were eliminated hy the sophomores I3 to 123. flu Decemher twelfth two heavy and lwir lightweight teams fought in the semi- linals. The seniors opposed the juniors in the fastest game of the tourney. The juniors won hy a 325 to 15 score. Following this game, the '27 lightweights won from the freshmen. ln the final playoff, the heavy and liglitweight teams of the '36 and '27 classes opposed each other for the championships. The junior heavyweights won the title 15, lim 14 after a hard struggle. and the 'SG lightweights overcame the '27 opposition 11 to G. It was a great day for the '27 class, The girls' haskctball tournament was more interesting than usual this year. The new rules. which allowed the teams more floor work, were largely responsible for harder fought and hetter played games. The tournament opened March seventeenth with the seniors facing the sophomores in the hrst game of the series. The 'E27's fought hard hut age and experience triumphed and they were defeated 11 to 29, The juniors engaged the freshmen in the final game of the afternoon, and handed them a 3513 to 14 defeat. The next after- noon the freshmen were completely overwhelmed hy the 355 to 5 victory of the sophomores, and the juniors were swamped 13 to TIS hy the seniors. Two teams met in the semi-finals, The sophomores eliminated the juniors 23 to 22, hut it was anyone'5 game until the end and required an overtime period to name the winner. The seniors met the juniors in a final thrilling battle for the championship and won 13 to 9. l0G

Inter-Class Track Meet The annual interclass track meet was held April 2 and 3 in the High School gym- nasium. There was a complete schedule of indoor events for boys and girls and competition was quite keen, despite the fact that in some of the events there were only a few contenders. To start the meet Mable Johnson, '26, won first place in the girls' 20-yard dash, setting a new record of 3 1-4 seconds. Carlmark, '27, placed second and Rohrer, '26, third. In the boys' ranks, Sam Whitfield, '37, did the stretch in 2 -L-5 seconds, while Carlson, '25, and Thomas, '27, tied for second. Mabel Johnson annexed another first place by doing the 50-yard dash in 7 1-5 seconds. Maves, '25, and Stormont, '27, tied for second place. Thomas and VVhitheld tied for first place in the 220-yard dash, while Schultz and Art Larson of the '26 class tied for third. The time, 28 seconds, was 3-5 of a second behind the record made by Vic Esterdahl last year. Steffanson, '25, jumped a height of 5 feet I5 3-4 inches in the high jump for first honors. Tom Larson, '26, and Aultman, '28, took second and third respectively. Buck. '25, won the mile run. Rinehart, '26, pleced second and Charlie Larson, '26, third. Time, 5 minutes 313 seconds. Vance. '26, took the girls' basketball throw, with Mayes, '25, second, and T. johnson '26, third. Distance 68 feet. The -140-yard dash was run in 66 1-5 seconds by Art Larson, '26. Cowley, '28, and liuttler, '27, took second and third respectively. The hop, step and jump went to the seniors. Buck won with a leap of 3:5 feet 4 1-2 inches. VV. Johnson and Ingram placed second and third. Kachevas, '28, ran the girls' 100-yard dash in 14 2-5 seconds. Stormont, '25, took second, and VVilson, '25. and johnson, '26, tied for third. In the boys' event Ingram and Whitfield tied the record made by Vic Esterdahl by circling the lap and a half in 12 seconds. A. Larson placed third. The shot put belonged exclusively to the seniors. Sandstrom heaved the shot for -12 feet 5 1-2 inches, and won first place. Erickson and Carlson claimed second and third. Buck again took hrst place when he ran the half mile in 2 minutes 26 -I-5 seconds. Rinehart and C. Larson, juniors, took second and third. Dennhardt, a freshman, won the pole vault with a mark of 9 feet 1 inch. Ellstrom and Servine of the sophomores took second and third. In the girls' relay fone lap eachl the seniors and sophomores tied for first, while the juniors placed third. Time 41 23-5 seconds. In the boys' event ttwo laps each? the sophomores took first, the seniors second, and the juniors third. Time 1 minute 8 -I-.3 seconds. The seniors were the winners of the meet, scoring 51 1-2 points, the sophomores followed with 41 points and the juniors with 137 1-2. The freshmen made but 14 points. This was the seniors' fourth consecutive championship. Buck was chief point winner for the boys, totaling 15 points, while Mabel Johnson led the girls with 11 points. 107
