Freshman Basketball HEAVYWEIGHT The Freshman heavyweight team entered the tourney im- bued with a good fighting spirit and did their best to uphold the honor of their class. Despite their youth and inexperience the first year men showed up remarkably well while they were in the tournament. Al- though they brought up the rear, Coach Palmer's squad made anenviable record for good. clean, sportsmanlike bas- ketball. Upper Row: Snndqnist, Beck, Linder, Magnusson Lower Row: Lnndeen, Giesenhagen, Johnson Upper How: West, Landee, Gooden, Swanson, Hook, Emery, Gould Lower Row: Smith, Kachevas, Stoneburner LIGHTWEIGHT Despite the fact that they were eliminated before the final game of the tournament. the freshman lightweight team dis- played good teamwork, put up a good fight, and placed third among the lightweights. Their chief Weakness was their lack of scoring ability. VVith the good experience they have gained this year, they should be able to make things lively for the upper-classmen next season. f3lRLS Age and experience told in the girls' lnter-class Tournament and the team uf youngsters who battled so bravely for the honor of the freshman class were forced to how in defeat before the onslaughts of the older ag- gregations. Though the team placed fourth in the tourna- ment, Miss Belz's charges de- serve credit for their display of fight and courage. Upper Row: Hunt, Relmers., Larson, K. Palmer, Coach. 7 A Sophomore Basketball Upper Row: Carlson. Humphrey, Yeager, Coach, Blue, Hyink Lower Row: Pearson, Ellstrom, Arnold. Wilson GIRLS The Sophomore team staged a great light for supremacy during the Tournament and al- most won the championship hy their excellent playing in the final game. The fact that the second year team placed second in the tourney augurs well for their chances to win the title next year. The splendid record made hy the team is a tribute to the alile coaching of Miss lilolff. HEAVYWEIGHT Harold Yeager's sophomore heavy squad won up to the finals of their series. but their hope for the inter-class cham- pionship consideration was shattered when they were downed by the juniors' brilliant aggregation in the final play- off. The team played a won- derful game all through the tournament and placed second in the final. I iff' Upper Row: Rinehart, Hammer, Kellogg. Johnston, Fawks Center Row: Karstens, Stormont Lower Row: Madison, Carlmark, Thomson Upper Row: Servine, Francis, Yeager, Coach, Bloemsma, Johansen Lower Row: A. Johnson, Shirkey, H. Johnson LIGHTWEIGHT The Sophomore lightweight team duplicated the feats of the heavier third-year men and won second place in the light- weight events. They displayed real championship caliber and gave the juniors a hard run for first place. The team displayed a knowledge of the game that enabled them to play a superior brand of ball and earn second place in the tournament. 104
