One of the hallmarks of maturity is the ability to make decisions. Many of your ex- periences in school have been aimed at giving you a chance to make decisions. I trust that upon graduation a sufficient foundation of skills has been laid on a solid base of knowledge to enable you to build your future by the decisions you make. Each one of you has in your own hands the opportunity to become a responsible member of a free society. Collectively you have in your hands the future of mankind. Make your decisions wisely. DAVID MILLMAN Principal, Senior High School You, the class of 1962, are leaving high school at a time when there are tremendous changes and ad- vances to which you can look forward in your lifetime. You have a part to play in these changes and advances. What part will you play? Set your goals high. There is not much time available for you to play this part. Each day, when past, will never return. Use your time fully and wisely, because you are important and what you do can be worthwhile. I wish success to each member of the class of 1962. HERMAN L. BRADT Principal, junior High Schoo l Much has happened these past 300 years since Arendt Van Cutler founded Schenectady in 1661. We have advanced from flying kites practically to intercontinental space travel, from the horse and buggy to multi-horse- powered automobiles, from the one-room school to our excellently equipped modern schools. This technocracy has brought us closer to our neighbors all over the world. But we have not made enough progress toward the de- velopment of a common understanding among the peoples of the world. This area needs more extensive exploration and effort than our mis- sile or space program, if we are to reap the harvest from the ideas our ancestors planted years ago. On you, the graduates of 1962, falls the heavy responsibility of creating in your life- time a world of understanding, a world of friendship, a world of peace. I hope the ed- ucation you have received will help you put forth the energy to attain these goals. My best wishes and those of the faculty go with you. A 5
