M A game Hawk soccer team finished the season with a 4-3 victory over their Utica College cross town rivals and a 3-7 season record. Four losses were in games that the hawks led 1-0 at half time. Gary Ezzo, captain and senior, was named to the All Region Team for the second straight year. Gary alternated between offense and defense and led the team in scoring with seven (7) goals. Bill Meeker, a fine fullback, was selected by his teammates to receive the Most Valuable Player Award. The loss of Mickey Viglietta, due to an injury at the start of the sea- son, proved to be a real loss to the team. Billy Davis led the Hawks in scoring with 463 points and an 18 point average per game. Jack Reed was right behind Billy with 437 points and a 17.5 average per game. Reed and John Miles led the Hawks in rebounding with 284 and 248 respectively. Chuck Klempka, a steady performer all year, receives the Most Valuable Player Award while Reed and Davis were selected on the first and second teams all-con- ference. Seniors who will be missed from next season ' s squad include Klempka, Reed, Miles, and Viglietta. TRACK and FIELD The Hawk cindermen completed the season with a 3-2 dual meet record, a fourth place finish in the Cobleskill Invitational and a second place in the Region III NJCAA championships. This is a fine record considering only twelve men participated for MVCC. Chris Sochin, all around performer, set a new school record hitting 46 ' in the Na- tional JC Track Meet to better teammate Chuck Klempka ' s old mark of 45 ' BVs . Klempka also kept his name on the record books by setting a new mark of 22 ' 11% in the long jump. Bill Cook also set a school record throwing the javelin 171 ' 8V2 . Klempka also set another record along with Dan Corey high jumping 5 ' IIV4 . The 1968 Hawk Golf team finished with an 8-3 over-all record and established a new school scoring record of 287 in their victory over Cobleskill. The Hawks captured the State University Junior College Athletic Conference for the second straight year with a 5-0 conference record. They finished first in the Sub Region tournament at Twin Ponds and fourth in the Region III Championships at Corning Country Club. Seniors Bob Furmanski, Tom Jenny, Ted Wegrzyn and Len Abrahamson will be missed through graduation next season. Bob Longo and Rich Zerdecki will return to provide a nucleus for next season ' s squad. However, the Hawks went on to win four out of the remaining five games to end their season with a record of 4 wins and 6 losses. Sal Rizzo topped the Hawks in hitting with a hefty .487 average. Sal collected 16 hits in 33 times at bat. Bob Colangelo followed with a .381 average. Jim Entwistle also hi t over .300 with a .333 batting average. John Entwistle had a pitching record of 2 wins and 2 losses. Jim Entwistle finished with 2 wins and 3 losses. Both boys had an earned run average below 3.00. WRESTLING The Hawks Wrestling team finished the season with a dual meet record of 5-7. One of the highlights of the season was the first place finish at the Canton Ag. . Tech. College Christmas Tournament, beating Canton, Paul Smith ' s College and Dean Junior College for the honors. Wrestling their last year for the Hawks were seniors Dave Foxx, Tony Loconti, Mike Moore and Captain Dave Lasher, Their services will be missed when the team starts again next fall. Senior Dave Foxx placed third at the Region III Tournament while Freshman Rick Munson won the 145 lb. class. The loss threw Cobleskill into a tie with the Hawks for the S.U.J.C.A.C. Championship while the MVCC squad finished the season with a 3-4 record. Dave Barker, the only returning letter winner, teamed up with a group of newcom- ers led by Joe Skrakowski and Jim Dalton to give the Hawks a fine team, making up for lack of experience with hard work and hustle.
