Foreword Have you ever realized what life would be like without BOOKS? The education you now hold would be impossible to obtain, As each generation began, they would have to start from the beginning, for our ancestors could not have passed on their knowledge and experiences so that each future generation might benefit from them. The education you obtain in high school is one that not only developes your mind but also your body and your spirit, You learn to work not only as an individual but as part of a unit. What you learn or do not learn in high school will have an in- fluence on your entire life. We hope that you will be able to relive this past year and the years before by turning the pages of this book, THE TOTEM. The Totem Staff Z Barbara McCullough EDITOR-IN -CHIEF

Dedication 4 jOHN MICHAEL O'LAYER Such a little space of time That we could get to know him, And still all these memories To remind us all of the sweet fellow Student we all loved and admired. And then . . . There was someone laying so still, Someone they called . . . john. The heavy incense of flowers, The long periods of silence, Andasobortwo . .. And the lingering thoughts . . . Thoughts that conjure up sharp pictu Too vivid pictures! john yelling himself hoarse at the basketball games, res, Always playing a practical joke on someone, But then he could always take a joke, too. john was good . . . Good for all of us to have known him. He was such a sweet, kind, and Conrteous boy, a loyal friend to all. He enriched our lives, with his Presence. He showed us how to have a Good time, But yet with more serious Times. And they called that someone lying so Still . . . john. But john would never lie as still as That or he would never let people cry Over him. No! that wasn't john, Not the john we all knew and loved. The memory of his friendliness, sweet Smile, and courtesy will always be Lingering behind. This is the johnny we all want to remember.
