Varsity Sports BASEBALL This marks Mohawk's first baseball season in the Iroquois League. The team is determined to make their first Iroquois season a winning one. Scores: Iroqouis League Iroqouis League MOHAWK OPPONENTS MOHAWK OPPONENTS 17 Frankfort .,.. .... O 11 Norwich ..... .... 1 3 7 Little Falls --- 0 3 Little Falls --- 5 4 Oneonta --- 'Z -- Oneonta --- -- -L Frankfort -- -- -- Herkimer -- 3 Herkimer 5 Ilion ...... 12 Ilion --- 9 -- Norwich --- WRESTLING For the first time in its history, Mohawk High School had a wrestling team. Although wrestling for the initial time, the grapplers won second place in the Iroquois League. Coached by Mr. Baker, they provided excitement by defeating Ilion, Herkimer, Oneonta, and Little Falls. They lost only to Norwich, the champions. Louie Reinhardt and Bob Swartz are the only members graduating. We extend our congratulations to the team which made Mohawk's first wrestling venture a success. TRACK As this book goes to press, Mr. Tolpa's track team has won a dual meet from Little Falls and lost one to Norwich. They beat Little Falls, 8Of24, and lost to Norwich, 67f37. In a meet held at Oneonta, the score was 52 2f3 to 50 1f3 in favor of Oneonta. VOLLEYBALL AND RIFLE The Iroquois League introduced a new page in our winter sports program. For the first time, Mohawk has had volleyball and rifle teams, of which we may be justly proud. The volleyball team, guided by the excellent coaching of Mr. Edward Pushkar, completed a fine season, winning three and losing only two. In the tournaments, at the end of the season, Mohawk defeated both Norwich and Oneonta, but lost in the finals to Ilion. Mr, Snyder's five marksmen made a Hne showing of straight shooting throughout the whole season. With marksmanship which should have made our rivals turn green with envy, the Mohican shootingffive captured fourth place in the Syracuse Sectionals. In these sports, as in all others, the students of Mohawk have shown a willingness to work, a sense of responsibility, and excellent cooperation. These things, along with the expert training and fine school spirit, made Mohawk's first season in volleyball and rifle matches extremely successful. Congratulations! And thanks to the members of those teams for representing our school so well. 8
