Page 2 Vt .N 1 -- X xg? 1 QR it Forward The 1959 Sycamore - Modern in thought, modern in arrangement, and modern in school life it represents! This year's staff has endeavored to iniect an old fashioned flavor and to show the growth of Modesto High School throughout seventy-five years of service to the community This is the diamond anniversary of Modesto Hi-gh School. We can find no way to use diamonds in the Sycamore, but we have tried to show why Modesto High School de- serves diamonds. Progress is apparent in the city around us, progress is apparent by pictures on the main division pages, progress is apparent in the book itself. The first school in 1883 and the first graduating class in 1885 contrast greatly with MHS as it is now, and with the 1959 graduating class. The first Sycamore in 1910 is quite different from the Sycamore as we now know it. lf the contrast in customs and times helps to make the 1959 Sycamore more en- ioyable to you, then all of the staff's efforts have been worth while.

Those who have had Mr. Bennett as a teacher will always remember his kind and helpful manner which made him a friend not to be forgotten. Serving Modesto High for 21 years before his re- tirement last year, Mr. Bennett helped to raise the interest in science as a teacher of biology, as well as being a faithful supporter of Modesto High School. Modesto High School will always treasure the memory of Mr. Bennett as he walked away from our school with his hat on and his briefcase in his hand, ready to be of help whenever needed.
