'C ll YQXETVN' o-'ries NX e'm-o- x-'ies I 'b .V .I L5 We, the Seniors of '53, have many memories. Some-winning an exciting football game, giving our junior play, working at the concession stands, and especially seeing our basketball girls wi n test-are Freshman, Sophomore, junior, and Senior years. How going on, homeroom Since new vowed we would work twice as hard the next year. By the time we were Sophomores, we weren't being accepted more each day by the upperclassmen didn't win, the Sophomores knew that C. W. Allen well. At the end of the year we really became excited the trophy three consecutive years--are pleasant, and some-failing a six weeks' Latin not. Our memories could be divided into four distinct periods: memories of our well we remember our Freshman year! Were we ever scared! No one knew what WIS all seventy-nine of us signed up for the same classes, so we could stick together. Our teachers, Mrs. Wagner, Mt. Boose, and Mr. Williams, soon made us feel at home. buildings were being added, we didn't get to have a Halloween Carnival, but we considered so green anymore and were Although our King and Queen candidates and Josephine Miller represented our class Next year we would be Juniors! What a busy year! First of all there was the R. E. A. Picnic. Every junior would have vowed and declared that he or she personally wrapped two hundred sandwiches for the occasion. To take the lead in the busy year ahead, we elected Harrell Powell as president of the class. Showboat will always ring a bell with us, for this was the theme of our Junior-Senior This momentous affair was held at the Cavalier Room in Winston-Salem. Next came our Junior play, Dollars to Doughnuts . We thought it was a success whether anyone else did or not. Marshals were picked later with Mary Sue Rankin earning the title of Chief. One of our more exciting days was the day we ordered our class rings. We chose a red stone this time and changed the design on the sides. During our junior year we saw our Queen, Carmen Greene, crowned, with our King candidate, Douglas Daniel, coming in for a mighty close second. The next autumn of '52 we entered Mocksville High School for our last year. Mrs. Crenshaw was our Senior advisor. We welcomed to our class Keith Tutterow, whom we immediately elected president, along with johnie Hodgson, Vice-President, Josephine Miller, Secretary, and Billie Harmon, Treasurer. Hi Life this year was also edited by Billie Harmon, while Carmen Greene was given the tremendous task of editing the Mockwillian. This year Linnie Brown and Farrell Cohen were our candidates for King and Queen. Well we remember the day a representative of the Curtis Publishing House came to talk to us. For the next three weeks the Seniors canvassed the neighborhood selling magazines. Our effort was rewarded, however, when we exceeded our 31,000 quota. Special honors this year went to Harrell Powell, who was elected president of the Student Council, to Johnie Hodgson, who was chosen the most valuable football playerg and to Ivey Nell Bowles, who was given a free trip to Charlotte for her work in the 4-H Club, Yes, now our wonderful school days are over. Always we will remember our wonderful times together. We also will remember our teachers-our disagreements with them and how they influenced us. Always we will remember M. H. S., and always it will hold a special place in our hearts. BILLIE HARMON, Historian 6
