As the 1951 Tlgers donned their football togs for the first time they knew they had three strikes against them even then They were light inexperienced and faced a very tough schedule But if there were some things the Tigers lacked it was not courage and they fought bravely tlll the last gun of every contest The Tigers opened the season against the powerful Belle Fourche Broncs and went down be fore them 32 I3 although they played them on even terms through the second half Then after a two week rest the Tigers ripped through a highly touted Eureka team handing them the only defeat of the season 25 I3 The Bengals then traveled to Lemmon to face the highly polrsbed Cowboys on a ramsoaked slippery field The Cowboys got a zo o wln but had to work for their points A bit of bad luck stopped the Tigers from sconng when they were inches from the Lemmon goal line In their Homecoming duel the Trgers conquered the Gettysburg Battlers I3 7 to cap a hrgbly successful Homecoming event At Ipswich the Mobridge boys found a keyed up opponent which battered them to the low end ofa 27 I3 score The next week however the Tigers were the keyed up team as they stunned the Miller Rnstlers Conference Champions by holding them to a I3 I3 tie It was the Rnstlers only blot on their Conference record In the season s last game the Pierre Govemors defeated the Tigers 41 25 rn a wild scoring battle The fmal won loss record was 2 wins I tie and 4 losses The Quarterback Club enuertained the Tigers at a banquet at the close of the season Letters were awarded and John Hohl was chosen captain uct Ye Q00 ui' use new S 'U 'O f,,d.1wem'r Rs aj 55 .Q , ol ' 0 ' ' 0.3 ll Q 0.
