Commercial Baking Students Are Trained for the Baking Industry Commercial Baking students are 11'ained in three basic areas- cakes and pastries, bread and rolls, and cake decorating. The 9- month course prepares the student with the skills and knowledge necessary for a job in the baking industry. The baking student is trained in the production of bread, rolls, coffee cakes, and yeast raised fried products using manual and machine methods as used in retail baking. They are taught how to mix and bake a variety of cakes and pastries using standard equip- ment of the approved type to produce quality baked pastry products. Part of the industry is devoted to the artistic and creative abilities of peopleg such as the development of new porducts and the creation of decorated cakes for all occasions. The students of the Commercial Baking class earned money for a field trip to Rapid City by holding a Bake Sale.
