Junior Class The junior class, with Lindy Smith as president, Ruth Ann Dalton, vice- presidentg Dorothy Holt, treasurer, Vera Nolan, secretary, won recognition at the first of the school year by scoring higher than any other class participating in the field day program. Our candidate in the popularity contest, held at the annual Fun Frolic, was Virginia Stroud, and juanita McAlpin was in the court of the Homecoming Queen. Dale Shipman, yell leader representing the junior class, joined the Arniiiv Air Corps. Other class members in the service are Gillis Duncan, Bill Neal, Xvayne Corbett, james Tomlinson and Glen Woocls. J The class earned money for the prom by selling schedule pencils, stationery, and sponsoring a movie, The Light That Failed. i On April 21, the juniors entertained the seniors at a Derby Prom with Uhorsey clecorationsu and a setting suggestive of Churchill Downs, the scene of the Keni- tucky Derby. A swing band from jasper and a floor show entertained the guests at the swanky club house and the grand march was led by the junior president and the senior prom queen. Sophomore Class The officers of the sophomore class are: president, jack Mann, vice-president, Kenneth Tanksley, secretary, Maxine Connell, treasurer, Barbara Conley. The sophomores ranked well in school contests this year. The sophomore can- didate for homecoming queen was Odette Kallas. The candidate for popularity queen was Agatha McPherson. ln both contests we ran second, although in 1942 our candidate, Maxine Connell, won the popularity contest. The sophomore softball team won the intra-mural tournament. They ranked second in basketball and third in the field day activities. Mary F. Parks, the new yell leader, is a member of the sophomore class. NVe hope that we shall be able to have a record of high standing throughout our high school years. Freshman Class Well, here we are-the freshman class of Mitchell High School. VVe have Worked hard for eight years and here we are, in high school. VVe feel quite proud of ourselves, too. The Victory Queen came from our class. In fact, she is our president, jeannine Rosenbaum. Our other officers are: jill Forldrill, vice-presi- dent, and joan McNeely, secretary. VVe are 123 in number and have furnished the second team with some of its best players, Lloyd Holt, Billy Clemons, junior Neal, Bob Clouse, and Ernest Rayhill. The freshmen also did well in holding their place on the honor roll, and if it were not for the freshman class, our band would have quite a few bare spots. To the in-coming freshmen, we wish to say we hope your first year in high school will be as wonderful as ours has been. So here's to the Baby Class of Mitchell High. CHARLOTTE ANN BEER-joax MCNEELY.
