A cherub called to me from a tree nearby. He told of the greatness of the all-giving sun. He spoke of the land beyond the stars And how wondrous sights may be seen there. He told me to gaze at the water And behold the ebb and flow of the world. He told me to not fear, for there was not to fear. He spoke softly and gently. He made me close my eyes. I did sleep. My HOUSE My house is built of quiet footsteps, cautious imprints on the dust of long-dead ghosts. Out of some smoldering fear - we tread in awe of them, we measure our movements N carefully, ' r and dare a few words between us only now and then. My. house i A - s lives in silent shadows ' grown in dark corners of the master bedroom draped .across each expectant doorway, and collected on the cobwebbed family bible. In the attic . can be heard the soft remains b of stifled whimpers settled among my grandmother's lace, Q packed away forever in some forgotten padlocked truck.
