The prospects looked promising from the outset. This was a year of improvement for the Pequot basketball team. They re- versed last year's record to complete the season with 11 wins and 9 losses. Returning this year from last year's team were Co-Captains Bob Duarte and Mark Kirschner as well as forward Rich Ire- land. New material included the big man Mitchell has lacked through the years, Henry Weaver, 6'6 former New London High center. Not to be dismissed as scoring threats were 6'4 Tim Pagnam, 6'2 Pat Sullivan, and 6' Bob Hopper. The hoopsters opened their twenty game season on Novem- ber 28 at Manchester Community College by winning 75-64 with a well-balanced team effort. The team record was 5-3 at the Christmas vacation and 9-4 at the semester break. The loss of two starters severeley hampered the team in its second se- mester games, but the will to win was never dampened. Many thanks go to the seniors for their great effort on the court, and we wish them success in the future. We also wish to express our appreciation to Coach Douglas Yarnall. Much of the credit must go to him for the tremendous improvement shown by this year's team. 105
