But in our excite- ment over the steam calliope and the dancing elephant, let us not forget that this is the last season for one of the troopers. Mrs. Clifford Adams, a board mem- ber, resigned her position late in the second semester of our school term. Mrs. John Wyeth was appointed by the board to fill the vacancy left by Mrs. Adams' resignation. Mr. George L. Under his super- vision the Saint Joseph school system has made many advances in past years. Mr. Edgar C. Little, our capable Dean of Men, has been vocation advisor to a number of Junior College students this year. He has acted as representative of the school's administra- tion when necessitated by the appearance of Junior College students in cities outside of St. Joseph. We wish to thank Mr. Little for his earnest efforts in behalf of Junior College and its students. V page five fw 4-,ZX , . ' Galfegze Reef 64044 Early in the school year a group of interested students met to organize a College Red Cross Chapter. Since that time the organization has performed several worthwhile tasks at Junior College. Some activi- ties and duties of the members have been to obtain blood for the blood bank, to take First Aid courses, to prepare Christmas gifts and wreaths for the veterans' hospital, and to obtain entertainment for these hospitals. The local chapter is the only college unit in the Pony Express District of the American Red Cross. 'WWW 5164! The group of students at Junior College which continued the tradition of a Griffon Yearbook has been a consistently industrious organization. Through the fine cooperation of the various committees and especially the departmental editors, the students of Junior College are being given what the entire staff hopes will be an accurate and interesting record of the year's activities. The staff also wishes to acknowledge the generous assistance given by the Bray Studio, the American Engraving Company, and the Wing Printing Company in working out the details of the publication. page fifty First row, left Rhoma W Second row: M Alice Jo R The Griff paper. Lack of responsible reporters, and lack of time devoted to reporting were only a few of the prob- lems faced by the editors and the faculty advisor. A Nonetheless, those issues of the paper which were turned out provided items of interest and enter- tainment value to Junior College students. The only complaint that the student body could register concerning the publications was that there just hadn't been enough of them. Thanks should go to Don Thornton and Ric Mesker, the first and second semester editors, and Mr. R. B. Taylor of the Central High School faculty who acted as advisor. ' Thanks are also due to Jack Messner who created a new Griffon to decorate the front page of the News. Y It is hoped that next year the student body will recognize and respond to the need for a News staff capable of working in harmony and devoting their time to the large amount of work connected with publishing the Griffon News. page fifty-one page fifty-two COMPARATIVE ANATOMY CLASS ENGINEERING DRAWING LOGIC CLASS, MOCK TRIAL an f I SCENES FROI SCENES FROI CAST: Bill Morrix Gerald Foster, K1 Naggas, Ernest I Marshall, Margar mam, Barbara C0 DIRECTOR: MISS LATIVE OMY CLASS ZRING DRAWING LASS, TRIAL SCENES FROM THE ALL-SCHOOL PLAY OUR TOWN by Thornton Wilder SCENES FROM THE PARTY FOLLOWING THE PERFORMANCE CAST: Bill Morris, Ray Stock, James Pearce, Bob Aikens, Maralyn Shaclceltord, Nancy Keating, Bill Wessel, Zelda Goldman, Gerald Foster, Koy Starnes, Dick Lenz, John Bishop, Phyllis Utz, Monte Pendleton, Gwen Moncriet, l-larry Burdick, Evelyn Maggos, Ernest Ray, James Montague, Harold Matney, Burton Barlfus, John Nold, Alphalea Walkup, Gloria Peterson, Kitty Marshall, Margaret Geis, Sue Lechler, Karl Kramer, Don I-legemon, Ric Lopez, Wendell l-licks, Paulette Stowell, Dorothy Free- man, Borbara Coy, Jay Smith, Walter Tilbury, Charles Willman. The circus performers are packing their glittering costumes in preparation. for moving on to their next performance. . ' The main tent is being folded and carefully packed away until next season. Small crowds of onlookers wander about the circus grounds for a last glimpse of the departing glamour and glory of the big top. ' Soon, gusts of wind will carry away the last discarded souvenirs of this season's show. t U- P . G Perhaps it is wrong to compare our school activitieshere at Junior College with the tinsel and artifice of circus life. The motive of our school life is Education, while that of a circus is Entertainment. However, eliminating motives, we find that the essentials of giving a good performance are also the essentials of gaining a good education. They are sincerity, hardiwork, and cooperation with others. This year we feel that with the unselfish help of our Dean and faculty, the student body has given a consistently fine performance, one which will be remembered by every participant through all the years to come. page eighty I 1 1 i 1 oving , of the 'M ' show. 5 a with 3 whale U! t the 2 gpod . i yeaf - 1 y has every I fy ' VW if r0g?bM9ig?x,ifgLWf3k ,AQySk Jffiffiw ifY?QffW BW ?
