Geologists are involved in Water supply, in the study of oil, gas, and coal deposits, and in dam and highway construction. The ability to convey ideas clearly and concisely to others is very important in today's engineering work. The primary purpose of the graphics department is to instruct the engineering student in the fundamental principles of drafting techniques. I-IUMANITIES It is the belief of educators today that the well prepared graduate engineer must have a firm grasp of social conditions and pressures as Well as of the engineering sciences. ' The Department of Humanities and Social Studies offers courses in English gram- mar, technical report writing, and public speaking to stress the importance of clear communication. Economics, history, poli- tical science, and psychology are some of the social and economic aspects of life which successful engineering business- men must become aware of. Literature courses bring into clear focus the fascinat- ing storehouse of knowledge provided by the World's greatest authors.
