Professor ERNEST CARLTON Department Chairman an . . V V ,VVV I 1 CIVIL ENGINEERING Civil Engineering is the oldest engineer- ing profession and encompasses many phases of engineering endeavor. This year research facilities and graduate course offerings are expanded to enable the department to meet the increasing de- mand for Civil Engineers. Special professional conferences and the programs of the Student Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers keep the faculty and the students well informed of modern engineering advances. Students pursuing Civil Engineering re- ceive basic training in all of the following areas: structures, fixed and movableg con- structiong hydraulics and hydrology? sani- tation, materialsg soil mechanics and foun- dationsg surveying and photogrammetryg and transportation. Working models often aid in the solution of engineering problems.
