'T Harris Hall. MATHEMATICS Some of the greatest scientific ad- vances in history first came about through mathematical application before the actual proof in the lab- oratory. The Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy, one of the top en- gineering schools in the nation in size and quality, must have an out- standing mathematics department to prepare its engineers for their role in meeting the demanding chal- lenges of the precisely controlled world of the future. From basic college algebra to the highly complex theories of differ- ential equations, the department of- fers exacting courses under well- trained teachers. The design and application of high-speed computers in the engineering field is also taught as a part of the rapidly ex- panding system of calculation.
