'WFP 1 Dr. Planje, Department chairman. CERAMIC E GI EERI G Ceramics, a conception forwarded to us by prehistoric man, has been refined again and again to give the engineer of today a very important and challenging field of study. Ceramic engineering, the formation of products from non- W ,t metallic earthy materials by thermal changes, affords a well-rounded study of the fundamental sciences and allied engineering subjects. Compared to that of the other major engineering fields, the number of Ceramic graduates per year is small, but the importance of Ceramics in such areas as space travel is be- coming immeasurable. The MSM Ceramic Engineering De- partment is now the fourth largest in the United States. Careful analysis of data essential. Individual perfection in technique stressed. 4. g, Q fu' A-5 -mn .. , l ,,,. D . , , ff i EL. 4 Up to date equipment in ceramics lab

The expanded and improved laboratories, the well-manned staff of instruc- tors, and the newly extended graduate doctoral program point to the significance of the Chem- ical Engineering and Chemistry Department on the Missouri Mines campus. With the enrollment in chemistry now at a zenith, the future of graduate engineers in this field is understandably optimistic. Large lecture sections are broken down into smaller recitation groups. - eggs 4
