WILSO 1941-1963 been named the recipient of the 1963 Mineral In- dustry Education Award of the AIME, and recently he was given one of the highest honors that the United States Army can bestow, the Outstanding Service Award. Representative Carnahan presents resolution from the Missouri Legislature acknowledging Dean Wilson's accomplishments. When Dean Wilson first came to this school in 1941, there were 79 members of the faculty, including him- self and the registrar, at present there are 237 mem- bers. The total number of members on the staff was 1433 today this number has reached 800. Growth in enrollment and in the number of degrees awarded has been phenomenal during the 22 years of Dean Wil- son's tenure. The number of degrees awarded in 1941 was 158, of which 147 were at the Bachelor's level and 4 at the Master's. level. There were 7 professional degrees granted that year. In 1962 there were 589 Bachelor's degrees and 82 Master's degrees. Before 1941, 2,767 degrees had been granted, and in 1962 the total had reached lO,748. In 1941 the campus com- prised 14 buildings. Now there are 32 buildings, con- struction on two others is scheduled, and additional buildings have been recommended. Dean Wilson's influence at the Missouri School of Mines is prominently indicated in all of these statistics - on the growth of the physical campus, on the in- crease in faculty and academic prestige, on the evolu- tion of a comparatively small technical school into an engineering and science institution of top-ranking im- portance. Most outstanding in his achievement, how- ever, has been his influence on the lives of the thou- sands of students who have graduated from the school since he has been its head. No matter how large the enrollment and no matter how numerous the problems related to the development of the school, every grad- uate who has left the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy has done so feeling that Dean Wilson was his' personal friend and would be interested in his success. Students, faculty, and alumni are proud of their association with the fine educational institution Dean Wilson has been so intimately a part of for the past 22 years. His devotion to its exceptional develop- ment and his special contributions to its life and welfare have 'made the Missouri School of Mines an institution worthy of such pride. Major General Herrick presents Dean Wilson the United States Army Outstanding Service Medal.
