Dr. Curtis L. Wilson, dean of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy since 1941, was born August 29, 1898, in Baltimore, Maryland. vga f Gifts presented on Dean Wilson Day. After graduating from high school there in 1916, he went west and enrolled at Montana School of Mines, graduating in 1920. He worked as assistant research engineer for Anaconda Copper Mining Company until 1921, when he joined the faculty of Montana School of Mines as an instructor in metallurgy. In 1926 he went to Europe to study at the University of Goettingen in Germany. He received his Ph.D. degree there in 1928 and then returned to Montana School of Mines as Professor of Metallurgical Engineering. In 1941 he came to Rolla to his present position. He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Engineering by Washington University in St. Louis in 1954, and by Montana School of Mines in 1955. He is the author of a number of technical articles on re- search metallurgy and co-author of the book, Metal- lurgy of Copper. He has been a member of the American Institute of Mining Engineers since 1920 and has served on its Board of Directors. DEAN CURTI LAWS He has also been chairman of the AIME Education Division and of the Montana and St. Louis sections of the AIME, and is presently vice president of the Society of Mining Engineers of AIME. He is a registered pro- fessional engineer and a member of the Missouri So- ciety of Professional Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the St. Louis Engineers' Club, the Kansas City Engineers' Club, the Mining and Met- allurgical Society of America, the American Mining Congress, the Institute of Metals QLondonJ, and the British Iron and Steel Institute. He is a member of the honor societies Tau Beta Pi Qengineeringb, Phi Kappa Phi Cscholarshipb, Sigma Xi fresearchj, Sigma Gamma Epsilon Qearth sci- University President Ellis gives keys to the new Physics building to Dean Wilson. encesb, Pi Tau 'Sigma Cmechanical engineeringj, Alpha Sigma Mu Cmetallurgyb, Chi Epsilon Qcivil engineeringj, and Eta Kappa Nu Celectrical en- gineeringj.
