The Beta Delta chapter was founded at the School of Mines in 1936, and since that time has served its members and the campus in a variety of ways. A program of help sessions for Freshman chemistry students and an extensive labora- tory safety program necessary to increase student awareness of the importance of safety in the labora- tories have been instituted by Beta Delta. Civil-Engineering is the oldest and broadest of the engineering professions and had its beginning in the dawn of civilization. Civil Engineering deals primarily with the planning, design and building of private structures and public works. Civil Engineering, while a broad field, has various major branches in which to specialize, including highways, railways, hydraulics, structures, foundations, sanitation and consulting. The department is housed in a new one-million-dollar classroom and laboratory building and offers the students the most modern in educational facilities.
