ivil Engineering Department Civil Engineering is as old as civilization itself. In fact, it is only a few decades since the only branches of engineering recognized were Military, devoted to warfare, and Civil, building for peace. Civil Engineering was employed centuries ago in the Construction of such vast works as the Egyptian pyramids and the great Works of old Rome. Within the walls of Harris Hall, the Civil Engineer- ing Department attempts to convey these age-old principles to hopeful C. E. students. Along with the standards of old, the department offers present-day practices in the field of Civil Engineering. The competent staff of the C. E. Department is headed by Professor I. B. Butler, who has been with the M.S.M. faculty since 1920 and has given many years of faithful service to the school. Professors Carlton, Eshbaugh, and Gevecker are also old stand- bys in the department. ln keeping with the expansion of the rest of the school, the capacity of Harris Hall has been in- creased greatly by utilizing the entire building. This gives the department more much-needed room and increases the facilities of the department. -Nl !Q' IOE BEATY BUTLER Department Chairman Professor of Civil Engineering, 1920, 1931.
