lt seems, however, that Mr. Beatty is the originator of the departments teach- ing program. I-le stands before the class and when some poor lost head appears to be coming out of the foa- that's the time, he says, to begin a new chapter. lt is said that Mr. Rittenhouse is also a member of the E. E. Department, al- thouqh this is not too well known, as he was forced to move to a temporary building in a futile effort to isolate his booming voice. The rest of the faculty tries to adapt the equipment available to the training of hopeful enqineers. ln this respect, it must be qranted that the job is well done.

-fi Measuring the work of the electron. Page Twenty ., , few:-,fi-K,., 1:4 iA.1,4,6.--' ,.za4,,.f.. Electrical Engineering Department Have you ever seen an electron jumping? Matter of fact, it jumps around so fast that no one has ever been able to catch it. Perhaps that is the reason the E. E.'s frown when you ask Why? and l-low? What a mess: wires, circuit breakers, meters, machinery, vacuum tubes, and radio circuits. All these are to be found somewhere on the first and basement floors of Norwood Hall. Yep! lt's the hang-out of the Electrical Department- the department that teaches us the prin- ciples of AC. and DC. circuits and machinery, and teaches the E. E.s how to make powerand transmit it and how to send Morse through the ether. The head of fthe E. E. Department is an Old Faithful dating back to l9l6, who has a soft-voiced, easy-going per- sonality. Prof. Frame has seen the de- partment grow from infancy to its pres- ent state and hopes that, in the near' future, he will be able to set up shop in aibuilding all his own. Perhaps then, the electron will be caught and put on exhibition. Wires everywhere.

The American Institute of Electrical En- gineers has presented a series of pro- grams during the school year designed, primarily, to acquaint the students of the E. E. Department with the aspects of en- gineering in industry. Meetings have included an introductory Get Acquainted Smoker , a lecture on Hot Line Maintenance by a staff mem- ber, a talk on Sales Engineering by cm electrical sales engineer, a discussion of Measuring Instruments by a Weston engineer, and Frontiers in Engineering by a prominent representative of one of the large electrical manufacturing com- panies. The student branch holds an annual banquet at one of the Rolla hotels, usually in the middle of May. About the same time, two students of this branch, selected on merits of a technical paper presented to the faculty, attend the A.l.E.E. South- West District meeting and present their papers at that meeting.
