Lions Squelch Northwood Institute 48-Op Gain First Season Win In Maple Leaf Bowl Missouri Southern's Lions, paced by quarterback Rex Perry and tailback Sam Keahoiha, unleashed the potential ener- gy they had been storing tor tive weeks and rolled to a 48-O victory over North- wood lnstitute ot Cedar Hill, Texas, in the tirst annual Maple Leat Bowl tussie at Carthage, Saturday, October I9. The win was the tirst tor the Lions in collegiate competition. Northwood sut- tered its titth setback in as many outings. Perry, replacing the iniured Pat Woz- niak, completed eight ot II passes tor I63 yards and rushed tor 57 yards in eight carries as the Lions built up a 42-O bulge at the halt. Keaholha, whose appearance in the contest was his tirst ot the season, led the potent MSC ground attack with 79 yards on I7 tries. Southern scored the tirst two times it touched the ball to roll up a I4-O bulge at the end ot the tirst quarter. A 55-yard scoring aerial from Perry to Leonard Gay and Kenny l-lall's 77-yard punt return accounted tor the TDs. Bert Davis booted both PATS. Johnson's Lions scored tour times in the second quarter to put the game on ice. The tallies came on a 32-yard iaunt by Perry, a 25-yard pass trom Perry to Gay, a IO-yard scamper by James Scot- ta and a l-yard dash by Joe Kodba. Perry connected with Dale Green tor 37 yards and a touchdown to close out the scoring in the third quarter. MSC rolled up 232 yards rushing, l99 passing, and IIO on punt, kickott, and pass interception returns while limit- ing the Bears to IO3 yards on the ground and 78 through the air lanes.
