The long line of those waiting to enroll inched slowly up to the door of the cafeteria. Inside, the pace livened. After consulting with advisors, students confidently filled out course cards. Then finding, that zo- ology lecture was closed and advanced Spanish classes met only at eight O'clock, schedules were juggled and rearranged. Finally satisfied, weary students paid tuition fees and proceeded to the text book room for a semester's supply of books. After triumphantly completing registra- tion, students felt that they could face anything. Buckling down to the serious business of acquiring an education, they soon learned to appreciate the solitude of the library and the challenges presented in class. Of course, being typical students, they were quick to realize that a well rounded education consisted of more than academicsg so honest attempts were made to enjoy some of the other phases of college life. For months in advance, everyone planned the BIG weekend. This year, Homecoming was more than a football gameg it was fall itself. During the entire week of October 12-17, each club planned an entry for the parade. A gigantic woodpile took form as an army of wood- gathering trucks descended upon urban renewal projects and construction jobs. Topping the wood- pile with a Haskell Indian, the cheerleaders led a pep rally which generated enough enthusiasm to insure the Lions an easy victory. r-'Q fezim ' : w '. i f Jfssiiw . HOMECOMING BRINGS BACK THE OLD WEST After much anticipation, the big day fin- ally arrived. Each club hastily applied the finishing touches to their entry-some just minutes before the start of the parade. As the parade slowly inched its way down Main Street, the entire town joined the college students in giving the team a big send-off. That night the Lions could be nothing but victorious. They triumphed over Haskell Institute 37 to 7. After the game, a dance held in honor of the Home- coming Queen and her court climaxed the weekend. Although students worked hard to meet deadlines on research papers and exams, they took time out to capture the holiday mood. Introducing the winter season, the Crossroads Ball added gaiety to the festivities while service organizations such as Circle K and YWCA contributed to the spirit by sponsoring projects for the underprivileged. w Q 1 ' waz W, ' Luz r . QQ ' Vfiif' w A x w xx SPRING . . . AND ALL IT BRINGS The exuberance of spring gave students a renewed interest in school activities. Taking advantage of this spirit, the YWCA launched World University Service week during which money was raised to help students overseas. Miss Jane Williams, field representative of the World University Service, officially opened the drive. Each organization on campus sponsored a fund raising activity. For example, CCUN proclaimed Apple Munch Day and sold apples as their project. The College Players presented a variety show to aid the fund. Circle K challenged YW's to a hilarious basketball game in which the boys were handicapped by being tied together at the ankles. An auction of services jointly sponsored by Young Democrats and Young Repub- licans climaxed the drive. This one project netted more than half of the total fund. Messy- K ...S-'ww' 1 3 .1 1 . I ,, ' CROSSROADS Plans for your 1965 Crossroads began last spring with the choice of the Co-editors. From that moment on, we formulated ideas to make this the ccperfectn yearbook. During summer vacation we had the opportunity to tour the publishing company in Dallas and view the actual processing of yearbooks. At the publishing company the type of print, heading styles, weight of the paper, division pages, and color and design of the cover of the Crossroads were chosen. September came all too soon and we suddenly found ourselves madly collecting our thoughts, ideas, and as many pictures as possible. With September also came the choosing of our staff, and production began with full force. We all set to work organizing and planning general layouts, and alpha- betizing and categorizing class pictures. Another project on our list was the Crossroads Ball and Coronation. Preparation for this special event began weeks in advance, but as time grew closer We were, as usual, frantic over last minute details. All of our worry and doubts paid off for the ball was a smashing success. ln March, the final deadline approached and we were doing fine and well until old man winter decided to stick around a while longer. Because of him, the Miss .luco pageant was delayed and we found ourselves with four blank pages in the Royalty section. But thanks to a hard working staff who came to the rescue, your Crossroads is com- plete. Well, D Day has come and gone, the book is finished, and so are we. Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowlhg Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wearg Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.
