CROSSROADS 1964 Joplin Junior College Joplin, Missouri l To Tell a Story The elements: a kind of photograph, a copy style, a type face, an idea to be in¬ terpreted. And then the interpretations: the artist’s, the writer’s, the pho¬ tographer’s, and the editor’s. The ground rules: good journalism, faculty, admin¬ istration, parents, and artistic sense conflict and battle each other viciously. There are many styles, many ways, many preferences, many tastes. This is the first of the larger Crossroads. It is big and flashy, raw in spots, rare in others, and artistic all over. If you cared to be pictured you were, and we tried to spell your name properly. The story is real, unretouched, and incisive. The editorial is gentle, yet reflects this Joplin Junior College, this student body, this year of 1964. You wanted group pictures out-of-doors. You wanted color. You wanted a spe¬ cial picture. You wanted exciting pictures. You wanted deeper, more vibrating copy. You wanted a memory storehouse of JUCO 1964. You wanted all this: all this you have. Looking backwards, upside down, and a little forward here it is. MISS ADA COFFEY Dedication We, the staff of the 1964 Crossroads, dedicate this book to the memory of a great teacher, Miss Ada Coffey. Her influence upon Joplin Junior College and its students will long remain. A wonderful teacher, a sincere counselor, and a true friend, Miss Coffey will live forever in the hearts of those who knew her. 4 JOPLIR JUlllO Classes Organizations Sports ' ' Hrnmm, -- 1 F A C U L T Y A N D A D M I N l S T R A T I 0 N 7 The President ROI S. Myron has more than fulfilled his position as president of the student body. His leadership and concern has made this year of 1963-1964 the best year ever. The vice-president, Karen, served as a capable and energetic assistant throughout the year. The secretary, Barbara, was always ready with neat and accurate minutes. Vicki Vernatti, as treasurer, kept a record of the financial transactions of the Student Senate. Vicki Clement was an able parliamentarian who kept the group on the “straight and narrow.” These officers, your student body officers, were elected at the end of last year’s term. They have served you and your school all summer and throughout this 1964 term. We, the student body of JUCO, give thanks to these officers for helping us have a good and pros¬ perous school year. 16 CLASS OFFICERS: President, Don Kellhofer; Vice-President, Richard Moss; Secretary, Kay Baker; Treasurer, Marie Baysinger; Parliamentarian, Jackie Liedholt.
