Ramona Kunkle was the first Engi- neers' Queen. In recognition of her professional work done in education on local, state and national levels, the Student National Education Association with a member- ship of 87, named its chapter Ada Coffey Chapter in honor of Ada Cof- fey, an instructor of JJC. Circle K gave a Christmas party in the Lion's Den for a .Ioplin orphan. Myrl Gunn was the 1st football player from .l.lC to receive the National Jr. College Athletic Association All-Amer- ican Award. 1958-59 .UC moved to its present location, 8th and Wall Sts., Fall, ,58. Math Club was organized with .lim Mor- gan its first president. 1959-60 Religious Emphasis Week observed. Harry Cockel chosen by student body as 4'The Most Beloved Professor. YWCA observed World University Service Week. S.N.E.A. held a workshop. Crossroads pays tribute to Arnold E. Irwin. Social Science instructor, who died this year. 1960-61 .UC Basketball team placed 1st in the Mo. State Jr. College Conference. Crew began the removal of the old ,UC building at 4th and Byers. First Political Workshop was held. Arnold Irwin Fund was established. Dean Litton accepted a position on the faculty of Florida State College, Spring, '60. 1961-62 Dr. Leon C. Billingsley, former member of the faculty at KSC, Pittsburg, Kansas, became the fifth dean of JJC, Fall, '61. 703 students were enrolled in classesg 300 in night classes. .l.lC host to Council of North Central Junior Colleges, Oct., ,61. COLLECTED BY MEMBERS OF THE STAFF Nurses from St. .lohrfs School of Nursing take special in- struction at the college. 1958 ,UC moved to its present location, 8th and Wall Sts. Teachers of Tomorrow, 1948 Franklin Technical School was dedicated March, 1948. An early Beta Beta Beta Sorority meeting-1940. The Minstrel Show of1945. The Crossroads was dedicated to H. E. Blaine, the college's first dean. 1952-53 Pi Alpha Pi, honorary business fraternity, was organized. Nancy Ann Rogers was crowned HQueen of the Snow Ball, Dec., '52. .IIC Basketball team won lst place in the Missouri State .lunior College Con- ference. 1953-54 Dr. Maurice Litton becomes 4th Dean of IIC. Beta Beta Beta Sorority sent box of school supplies to Kathleen Crone, a former Beta teaching in Korea. Faculty and students stage costume ball. .IJC Basketball team tied for lst place in the Mo. State Ir. College Con- ference. 1954-55 Circle K Club, sponsored by the .loplin Kiwanis Club, was organized. .IIC Football team placed 2nd in Inter- state Conference. Crossroads paid tribute to Miss Edna Drummond, te a c h e r of biological sciences. Faculty men played the Y.M.C.A. men in Basketball. 1955-56 Choir had an outstanding season making trips to Kansas City and Des Moines, Iowa. .IIC Football team placed 2nd in Inter- state Conference. Madalyn Gustafson was chosen Homecom- ing Queen. 1956-57 .l.lC Basketball team Won lst place in the Missouri State Junior College Con- ference. Young Republicans Club was organized. Tribute was paid to .l.IC's first dean, Harry E. Blaine, who dies this year. First ,IJC Football player to be selected to play in an All-American Jr. Col- lege Bowl game was BOB SPEEDY. 1957-58 Engineer's Club was organized, Harold Burke was chosen first president and
