Bird’s Eyeview If you were a bird, you would probably see the campus as it is shown at right. Notice, that even though the University is located in Itta Bena, a small community in the Delta, there is nothing small about The Valley. The University’s buildings cover 250 landscaped acres. Not bad, huh? An additional 200 acres owned by the University are adjacent. Campus Cops You can tell the good guys on campus — they wear green and white and have badges. In addition to writing tickets and keeping the peace, the campus police are around 24 hours every day to provide security and protect everybody. Drama Drama is a big D at The Valley. For those who believe that all of the world is a stage, there are productions year round. Driving Just because you have a driver’s license, doesn’t mean you know it all. The driving lab at The Valley may show you some things you didn’t know. Datin We can‘ tell you about dating, if you don’t already know by the time you get to college. 119 08s Education The accent is primarily on education at The Valley. No matter what your major area of study, you will find there are instructors who care and are willing to treat you as an individual and not a number. For example, the programs at the Valley are hands-on programs — you don’t just talk about it, you do it. You operate the television cameras, write and act in your own plays, assist professors in real operations. After you have earned your degree, we even go out and help you find a job — and that’s a FACT. Entertainment Your education includes developing a social attitude. That explains why we have talent from across the county com- ing to The Valley. Among them are names like Bootsy, The Barkays, Stokely Charmichael, Metropolitan Opera star George Shirley and so many more. That’s a FACT, too. ‘tt “‘s Games Everyone gets involved in games. The intramural pro- gram pulls all of the student body into organized contests. Then when things are slow, you can always find a pickup game on the yard. Gatherings There is a reason to come together nearly every minute of every day at The Valley. Naturally you have to get together in classes and during the intercol- legiate sports activities. The Valley family comes together, also, to plan the future of the school with officials from Washington, have face-to-face encoun- ters with our Congressman, give an award to a former graduate who has published his latest book, tape a tel- evision show, and of course have a good time with friends. When our students and graduates make outstanding achievements we are the first to acknowledge them. 125 CALENDAR OF ACTIVITIES Mississippi Valley State University Department of Student Personnel Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday 1 2 3 7 1) Bae Sie | ieee Seale: —S BASKET BALE SW YC TOURNAMENT OD) TIME PY Haton Rouge. You can take a course in it to work toward the black belt. Or S, for singing. If that is your forte, you can partici- pate in one of nearly a dozen organized groups on campus. N, for nightlife, is also left out. If you can’t find a satisfying nightlife on campus, Mem- phis, Tennessee the entertainment of the country, is about two hours drive, so is Jackson, the state’s capital. To get an idea of what happens on campus, an activities calendar is shown here. T for tremen- dous education is left out too. Now come to the Valley and we’ll show you the rest of the ABC’s. 127 Sports ATHLETICS Athletics begin each fall with the number one sport — FOOTBALL. The Devils under head football coach Davis Weathersby and his staff always offered action packed contests that went to the wire.
