It ' s really great when you can go to the dorm and be confident that there will be someone there that you can kill time with. This confidence, however, can only be felt during the week at MSU, because for lack of better things to do, the students continue to head homeward on the weekends. The Inter-Residence Hall Council, in an effort to change this trend, has taken some measures that may be effective. One measure is the refrigerator leasing. The success of this was evidenced by the hundreds of unfulfilled orders due to a shortage of the appliances. Other measures are the recreational center by the freshman boys ' dorms and the pinball machines that have been installed in some dorm lobbies. Recently Sessums Hall celebrated its birthday as The Capital of the World. Other male dorms have held swaps with the girls ' dorms. These are small steps, to be sure, but they are definitely in the right direction. 22

For those who live out-of-state or simply too far to drive home every weekend, State is a nine months ' per- manent residence. Sometimes it can really be bleak. Football games and visits to friends ' homes help a little, but otherwise this place is deserted on the weekends. 24
