Agriculture — New Techniques in an Age Old Endeavor As a part of Mississippi State from the very first, the College of Agriculture has made a major contribution to the development of the people and the land of Mississippi. Graduates of the College have contributed to modern af- fluence by developing a more efficient agriculture which continues to supply the basic human needs at a decreasing cost. The College of Agriculture prepares men and women to engage in scientific discovery and to apply the scientific knowledge to the most efficint economical and aesthetic management of our total renewable natural resources. Nat- ural resources are managed to provide food and sustenance efficiently and to develop the most wholesome natural en- vironment for all members of the society. DR. NORMAN C. Graduate School: Advanced Education DR. J. C. McKEE, JR. Dean of Graduate School The Graduate School has been in operation since 1936, and in the last ten years has given more Master ' s Degrees than the entire university gave Bachelor ' s Degrees from its founding in 1880 to the formation of the Graduate School in 1936. The number of fields in which advanced deurees are offered is increasing every year, and the Gradu- ate School is doing much to further the interests of higher education in Mississippi. The world over, men and women with Graduate Degrees from Mis- sissippi State University may be found working for the betterment of their society. 10

Arts and Sciences - A Broad The College of Arts and Sciences developed from the School of General Sciences in 1903- The college tries to educate the student in broad fields of interest instead of a single major. The program emphasizes the building of a useful and well- rounded life by providing for the student the opportunity to ac- quire the understanding necessary for him to contribute to the advancement of society. The College offers many fine facilities for the use of its students, including those of Hand Laboratory, Hilbun Hall, and others. In addition, the College provides pre-professional curriculums for students who take their professional training elsewhere. Thus, premedical, predental, prepharmacy, pre- clinical, prelaw, and preministerial training is available within the College of Arts and Sciences. DR. L.
