I school of education The School of Education is a professional school which functions primarily for the pur- pose of providing pre-service and in-service education programs to meet the needs of the students who are interested in teaching; serving as administrators, coaches and school counselors ; and serving as band di- rectors. In addition to being fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and the state accrediting agencies, its standards enable graduates to satisfy the Mississippi State Board of Edu- cation for obtaining professional teaching certificates. Seven departments are included in the school ' s program: Adult Education and Ex- tension Teaching Service, General Education, Homemaking Education (graduate work only), Industrial Education, Music Education, and Physical Education and Coaching.

PARRISH school of business and industry The School of Business and Industry is the oldest school of business in the state and one of the oldest in the South. Since its beginning in 1915 one of its major activities has been that of a service division to the other schools on the campus. Through the School of Business and Industry, necessary business and social science training is pro- vided for the schbols of Agriculture, Arts and Sciences, Education, Engineering and Forestry. The School of Business and Industry is a professional school which combines general education with a broad business administra- tion program. Students are permitted to concentrate in one of the following fields Accounting; Banking; Economics; Finance Insurance; Management; Merchandising Salesmanship-Advertising; Secretarial Sci- ence; and Transportation. The major objectives in the School of Busi- ness and Industry are to educate men and women for positions of responsibility in pri- vate and public business and professions, and to enable them to advance rapidly both in their positions and in their appreciation of the values and obligations of good citizen- ship. 26

28 school of engineering Aeronautical, agricultural, civil, electrical, mechanical, nuclear, and petroleum engi- neering are offered in either a four year plan with a Bachelor of Science in your chosen field, or a five year plan for all but agricul- tural, conferring a B.S. in business adminis- tration. With the development and expansion of the graduate school, higher degrees are now being offered in the engineering professions. The curriculum of the school is fully ac- credited by the Engineers ' Council for Pro- fessional Development, a council which sets the standards for engineering schools throughout the country. This means that the work of the school is of the highest quality. The Engineering School, in line with the tremendous upsurge in technical occupations has grown amazingly in recent years.
