school of arts and sciences DEAN M. P. ETHRIDGE THE SCHOOL OF ARTS AND SCIENCES was established in 1903 as the School of General Sciences. Four year courses are offered in three major fields: Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences and Liberal Arts. The Biological Sciences Department embraces the fields of bacteriology, zoology, and entomology and is one of Mississippi State ' s vital departments. The Physical Sciences Department offers excellent courses in geology, chemistry, and physics. Students may study English, mathematics, history, po- litical science, sociology, philosophy, and religion in the Liberal Arts division of the school. Many excellently equipped buildings are used by the school, including the Biology building, the modern Chem- ical Engineering building, and the new classroom build- ing completed this year.
