The School of Education is a professional school which functions primarily for the purpose of providing both pre-service and in- service education programs to meet the needs of the students who are interested in teaching, serving as administrators, coaches and school counselors and serving as band directors. In addition to being fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and the state accrediting agen- cies, its standards enable graduates to satisfy the requirements of the Mississippi State Board of Education for obtaining professional teaching certificates. Seven departments are included in the school ' s program: Adult Education and Extension Teaching Service, General Education, Guid- ance Education, Homemaking Education, Industrial Education, Music Education, Physical Education and Coaching. school of education
