SCHOOL OF EDUCATION The School of Education is a professional school which functions primarily for the purpose of providing both pre-service and in-service education programs to meet the needs of students who are interested in teaching in the elementary and secondary schools, in serving as school administrators, in qualifying for coaching ath- letics, and in serving as school counselors. In addition to being fully accredited by both the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and state accrediting agencies, the School of Education maintains standards which enable its graduates to sat- isfy the requirements of the Mississippi State Board of Education for obtaining professional teaching and ad- ministrative certificates. The School of Education consists of seven depart- ments, which are as follows: Adult Education and Ex- tension Teaching Service, General Education, Guidance Education, Homemaking Education (graduate work only), Industrial Education, Physical Education and Coaching, and Resource-Use Education.
