BUSINESS EDUCATION BUILDING SCHOOL of BUSINESS «« INDUSTRY R. C. WEEMS Dean The School of Business and Industry, organized in 1915, is one of the oldest college schools of business in the state and one of the oldest in the South. Since its beginning, one of its major activities has been that of a service division to the other schools on the campus. Through the School of Business and Indus- try, necessary business and social science training is provided for the Schools of Agriculture, Educa- tion, Engineering, and Science. The School of Business and Industry is a profes- sional school which combines a general education an d business administration program with intensive training directly applicable to positions in the fol- lowing business fields: accounting, business admin- istration, institutional management, commercial avi- ation, industrial management, banking, merchan- dising, production management, secretarial science, public administration, economics, and journalistic administration. Above all, Dean Weems is always happy to give his expert advice to all who seek it and keeps the interest of his students at heart.

SCHOOL o AGRICULTURE Training programs in the School of Agriculture have as their purpose the preparation of students for better citizenship and for more efficient farm operation, for scientific investigation in the various specialized fields of agriculture, for professional service work, for teach- ing agriculture, and for various fields of business in which a knowledge of scientific agriculture is of value. Not only does the School of Agriculture consist of eleven departments, but various programs of instruc- tion in agriculture are made more practical by com- bining field and laboratory exercises with classroom work. The resident staff of both the Experiment Station and Extension Division of the College offer valuable opportunities for students on the undergraduate and graduate level to broaden their contacts with profes- sionally trained personnel other than the regular teach- ing staff. Although many burdens of administrative duties rest on Dean Clay Lyle ' s shoulders, the students in this school know him not only as a teacher and advisor, but also as a personal friend. SCHOOL OF EDUCATION The School of Education is a professional school which functions primarily for the purpose of providing both pre-service and in-service education programs to meet the needs of students who are interested in teaching in the elementary and secondary schools, in serving as school administrators, in qualifying for coaching ath- letics, and in serving as school counselors. In addition to being fully accredited by both the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and state accrediting agencies, the School of Education maintains standards which enable its graduates to sat- isfy the requirements of the Mississippi State Board of Education for obtaining professional teaching and ad- ministrative certificates. The School of Education consists of seven depart- ments, which are as follows: Adult Education and Ex- tension Teaching Service, General Education, Guidance Education, Homemaking Education (graduate work only), Industrial Education, Physical Education and Coaching, and Resource-Use Education. Dean Brooks is never too busy to offer his services to any student. TEXTILE BUILDING l J ! 2f — • diuf-- ' - ■ ell . mm ' m.. .-- ® im
