o a r o t o g r a p h e r Mr. Jim Pruitt, known to all Mississippi State College students as Papa Jim, of Pruitt Studios in Starkville, has been associated with the REVEILLE for a great number of years. As a matter of fact, Papa Jim has been the Staff Photographer for twenty- four of the forty-six volumes of the REVEILLE which have been published here at State. Because of this; because of his willingness to aid the REVEILLE Staff, in the capacity of photographer, party planning, or on editorial problems; because of his ability to acquire the friendship of everyone with whom he is associated; because he and his efficient staff of workers do all within their power to please the REVEILLE Staff; and because of his like for people, generally . . . we humbly dedicate the 1951 REVEILLE to Papa Jim. Papa Jim delivers th forty-sixth volume of The REVEILLE.

i h president Your approaching graduation is an important event for you and for Mississippi State College. By meeting the requirements for a degree, you enter into the great tradition of service to State and Nation, which has been created by the graduates who have preceded you from the halls of this institution. Henceforth you cannot escape the honor of repre- senting Mississippi State College wherever you go and in whatever you may do. And Mississippi State College could not, if it desired, eliminate you from its roster or write you off as its product. We trust that your stay on this campus has been pleasant and stimulating. There may have been times when, because of disappointments, you were impatient and yearned for the day of graduation which is now upon you. That frame of mind can easily be understood by one who went the self- same way that you have gone. But we trust that during the remainder of your lives you can look back upon your college days with a great deal of satisfaction and pride. It is usually true that we must remove ourselves from an experience before we can properly evaluate it. That being true, it is my wish that in reflecting upon your college career ten or twenty years from now, you can truthfully say that your Alma Mater was true to you. If you can do this, we shall have fulfilled our obligations to you. It is needless for me to remind you of the gravity of your responsibilities as citizens of the greatest Nation on earth. I do wish to emphasize, however, that this Nation was never in greater need of far- seeing and courageous citizens than it is at this time. New problems of immense proportions loom up in every direction. Faint-hearted people fear them and run from them. Courageous people recognize their presence and meet them squarely, refusing to yield to any forces except righteousness and justice. Mississippi State graduates have always proven their usefulness and their courage in times of peace and in times of war. We are confident that each member of the Class of 1951 will measure up to these high traditions regardless of the role that fate may design for you. It has been stimulating to know you during your student days, and we anticipate with pleasure our associations as alumni in the years ahead. FRED T. MITCHELL DR. FRED T. MITCHELL
