dnMemtta The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want ... In the deepening twilight of a clear and calm evening, death came through swift tragedy to four dear friends and classmates, whose going away left us with bowed heads and saddened hearts. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil ...

PRESIDENT MITCHELL This is the fifth year that Dr. Fred T. Mitchell has served in his present posi- tion as president of Mississippi State. President Mitchell, a Miss. State alum- nus, has assumed his duties and respon- sibilities with ever-increasing compe- tence. He has won the respect and admiration of both faculty and students for his enthusiasm for student activities. TO THE MEMBERS OF THE GRADUATING CLASS: All graduates are told, at one time or another, that they are finishing school at one of the most momentous periods in world history — a time rich with opportunities and potentialities. And though the im- plication of this truth is sometimes taken lightly, it is none the less true! For every year offers its peculiar opportunities and every age its singular adventures. Of the thousands of young men and women who are graduating during the middle of this unusual twen- tieth century, it may be said that the future of this country, as well as the ultimate future of the world, is, for the time being, in their hands. Such a challenge as this should demand from each of you the very best application of the knowledge that your degree signifies. The acquisition of a College education is easy enough for most young people today. It is the application of this knowledge to the situations of life that will weigh heavier in the final analysis. In your lives have been invested the combined efforts and untold hours of faculty and staff mem- bers, that you might better serve this state and nation upon your graduation. The expected returns, as shown from the lives of State College graduates for over half a century, will more than pay for the time, thought, and effort expended during your stay here! We believe that you will find your place of service in society and discover that you did graduate at a great time. Sincerely yours, Fred T. Mitchell President THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES John W. Backstrom sident, Sixth Congressional District, Leakesville. Reece D. McLendon Southern Supreme Court District, Poplarville. Mrs. Janie Rice Taylor Central Supreme Court District, Jackson. R. D.
