DL PRESIDENT Dr. Fred Tom Mitchell, Graduate of Missis- sippi State College, returned last year to assume the highest position of the College. Through his guidance Mississippi State has expanded its facilities at a rapid rate in order to accomodate the large number of returning servicemen, as well as to continue to provide for the regular flow of students. Since his arrival, Dr. Mitchell has grown in prestige and esteem with each new day. Both Students and Faculty have recognized his qualities as a leader as well as a sincere and friendly counselor. Dr. Fred T. Mitchell THE PRESIDENT ' S MESSAGE to tL SENIORS In years past, graduating students have been admonished to become responsible citizens of the State and Nation, but our horizons have been broadened, and you now go forth to become citizens of both our great country and of the world. There is so much to be done that you may be inclined to resign yourself to the inevitable atomic holocaust predicted by many outstanding leaders of the day. On the other hand, the complexities brought on by this New Age are accompanied by undreamed-of potentialities for improved hving. Your attitudes and actions will determine in which direction these new forces will be channeled— towards a better life, or death. In order to meet the challenges presented by the problems of your generation, you must have Faith! It was faidi coupled with courage which led to the development of this nation-and that combination is unbeatable. Faith is the keynote of a better world-faith in yourself, faith in your fellow-man, and faith in your God. As you leave this institution. Senior of 1947, you are confronted with a choice; and as you find your place for which your education and training here has prepared you, I hope you will choose wisely and assume unhesitatingly your role as an inteUigent, energetic, and courageous Citizen of the World. 13
