Harmon Boggs, dean of instruction, checks schedules at pre-registration. MDJC . . . Where the action is Action may not always bring happi- ness; but there is no happiness without action. Benjamin Disraeli Action is the culmination of inspiration mixed with a lot of motivation, participa- tion and results. Action may begin at home when you are motivated to mow the lawn that Mom has been asking you to do for week. Or the car that Daddy bought to motivate you to do well in school. Planned action is demonstrated through clubs and organizations, sports, music, and the classroom. At MDJC ac- tion is the VICA blood drive and the an- nual fruitsale. It is the full attendance at Vernetta Whittaker the Spectator club meeting, where stu- dents are supporting the transmission of culture and gaining of knowledge. Action is the modeling squad selling mums for homecoming. Students eagerly join clubs that will give them a little extra boost in their chosen field, and then apply them- selves to redeem the time spent. Action is the Delta Spirit perform- ing the half-time show at a football game where the Trojans are putting forth 100 percent for victory. Action is the awe- some show of skill and strength on the court where the girls and guys execute high-performance basketball. Action is even the winning baseball team. And then action is the clicking cameras and electric typewriters of campus journalists who seek to get it all on paper. Spontaneous action includes a group of coed commenting on the physique of a passing football player. Or, the hoots and whistles one hears when the Delta Danc- ers shake to a popular hit. The greatest action, however, is seek- ing the guidance of God in daily lives and making Him the absolute to determine if actions are right or wrong. No matter if the action in planned or spontaneous, MDJC is where it all is.

Action in the Classroom by Beth Pritchard Algebra, Biology, Chemistry, Danc- ing ... on to Zoology, MDJC ' s class- rooms are full of action. Prompted by a qualified faculty, students soon discover that a wonderful learning experience can be derived from classroom participation. Students realize by getting involved in the classroom, learning is made easier and more enjoyable. Through action and participation, the students develop those vital skills necessary to make the move into the adult world and into the careers for which they are receiving instruction. Action in the classroom reveals those be- fore unseen abilities that are within each student. However, spontaneous action will al- ways be remembered throughout the classrooms such as Miss Wooten ' s exas- peration with Harry Briscoe in Photog- raphy Class, the football player who nev- er brings a book to Mrs. Bennett ' s English Lit. Class, or the wise-guys in Mr. Whittington ' s Physical Science Class.
