Homecoming — A Tradition We people in the Delta are big on tradi- tions, and the students carry on the tradi- tion of Homecoming every year. The pep rally, the bonfire, the court, the football game, the parade, the decorations, the cele- brations and the excitement are all tradi- tional for the Trojan Homecoming. Home- coming was held on Oct. 2 this year, and everyone started celebrating a week in ad- vance. Edwards-Stonestreet had open dorm ; Stennis-Penrod carried out a Walt Dis- ney theme with decoration. T.J. ' s and Del- tettee alumni were invited back for the oc- casion. Even though we didn ' t win t he football games, our spirit didn ' t die. A school dance was held, featuring Spirit with Pizazz. After the dance many of us drifted over to the Depot to finish our cele- brating, which lasted almost all night. Bonnie Carpenter of Indianola was elect- ed queen. Freshman maids were Belinda Marshall of Greenwood, and Robin West of Drew. Sophomore maids were Stacy Co- lotta of Indianola and Donna Palasini of Leland. 9

Nontraditionalists If it feels good, do it — al- though the expression is trite, it does sum up the mood of many stu- dents. Girls, especially, are making this expression seem typical of lo- cal behavior. For instance, they are taking self-defense courses. They are picking up on the same entertainment as the guys. Some of the girls are proving to be better hunters than the guy s. Age-old male traditions of pool-shooting and beer-drinking are now enjoyed by many members of the female sex. Karate is a serious sport for females. Cheerleaders are into punk rock . Sports car enthusiasm costs thousands. 10
