DEDICATION His ten years of service and aid to Mississippi Delta Junior College have for the most part gone unhonored, unnoticed, but for the many hours of unselfish work he has eagerly given to the school, we dedicate this the 1978 edition of the RETROSPECT to Mr. Sherman Stauffer. A good humored, unselfish, and cooperative man, Mr. Stauffer served first as a math instructor then moved to his current position as business manager. For his faithfulness to the students, faculty, and administration-, this RETROSPECT is dedicated to Mr. Stauffer.

A TYPICAL MONTH AT MDJC-OCT. 3-PHI BETA LAMBDA MEETING Dr. J.T. Hall, in his eleventh year as president, directs the administration of Mississippi Delta Junior College. The college is governed by its 20-member board of trustees who are appointed by the supervisors of the eight supporting counties of the college. The eight counties in- clude Sunflower, Leflore, Sharkey, Bolivar, Coahoma, Washington, Humphreys, and Issaquena. Jack Harper, Jr. of Indianola currently heads the board. The board meets on the second Thursday of each month. Among its major actions this year, the board has: autho- rized the addition of a wing to the women ' s residence hall, hired a fulltime public relations director, dealt with the federal lawsuit against public junior colleges, and ex- panded the vocational curricula of the college. Adminis- trative personnel include counselors, secretaries, deans, and coordinators for all off-campus centers in such loca- tions as Greenwood, Greenville, Cleveland, Clarksdale, and Indianola. Departments of Administration The department of Student Affairs headed by Dean Travis Thornton handles statistical and other personal data on students, directs admissions and registration, and oversees student dormitory and recreational needs. The Business Office, headed by Sherman Stauffer, di- rects college expenditures record keeping and the dispersal of money for student scholarships and grants. Dean of Instruction Harmon Boggs directs the total in- structional program of the college which includes working with members of eight departments and the library staff His teaching stafT has 102 members. Vice President Sam Stafford devotes many hours to solving a multitude of administrative problems in the areas of federal reports, purchasing, and personnel. Jack Harris as superintendent of building and grounds handles the major chores of physical plant maintenance and bus transportation using his work force of 27 employees.
