It covers spring 1974, fall 1974, and winter 1975. All material had to be in to the company by February to assure spring arrival. The theme of the yearbook is special effects. The yearbook is divided up into the seasons. We tried to show the activities that go on in each season. In between the movies there were the beloved spring holidays. Next came the selection of PHI THETA KAPPA initiates who were students with a 3.5 or better average. T.J. ' s and chorus partici- pated in the junior college choral festi- val held in Jackson. Bringing the month to a close was the Miss M.D.J.C. pag- eant in which Miss LaDonna Roberts was crowned winner. April was a month filled with excite- ment. To start the month the annual spring dance featuring Mariah was held on April 2. On April 4, a frog jumping contest was held. A dancing recital staged by the P.E. Department was next on the agenda. Also the month of April was occupied with spring holidays, movies, baseball games, and cheerleader election. Religious Emphasis Week got off to a big bang with Grady Nutt as the opening night speaker. Carnival Day was held the 25th of this month. The students participated in a day of festivi- ties. The T.J. ' s brought the month to a close with a spring concert. May was a month full of anticipation. Included in the month ' s activities were Honor ' s Day, exams, and graduation. To put the month of May into full swing was Honor ' s Day, May 1, 1974. On this day the top students in each academic as well as vocational department were honored. Also on this day the 73-74 Ret- rospect was dedicated. Next came the most dreaded of all events in a student ' s life— EXAMS. But, alas, all good things must come to an end but with this end came the thing mo.st prized in the hearts of all students-SUMMER VACATION 17 spring is like a maze filled with patterns Editor: Anita Carter Co. Along with many other happenings this spring, the Physical Educational De- partment presented a Dance Recital. The theme for the reci- tal was patriotism. 20 Here Come the Frogs . . . 21 LaDonna Wins Miss MDJC Pageant March 27 Scholars Win Special Recognition on Honor ' s Day May ] Honor ' s Day opened with remarks by President Hall on the purpose of this day. The banquet was held in the cafeteria. During the course of the night festiv- ities. Coach Jimmy Bellipanni as- sisted by the other Trojan coaches presented awards to 65 outstanding athletes. A resolution, passed by the Mississippi House of Representatives commending the Trojan football team for their outstanding perfor- mance in winning the state cham- pionship for the second year in a row, was read. The Trojans captured the state crown by upsetting Pearl River 21-17 at Poplarville November 17, 1973. 27 Yearbook Staff Hosts Workshop The Mississippi Delta Junior Publications Staff hosted a yearbook workshop on campus in the Stanny Sanders Library, Feb. 28. Instructors for the workshop were Mr. Ralph Fair of Paragon Press, Montgomery, Alabama and Mr. Les Lamb, profes sional photographer of Greenwood. The workshop covered layout, editorial writings, themes, photography, and advertising. It was planned to provide help for students coping with the problems of yearbook production. One hundred and twenty-one students attended. 28 April Showers Bring More Activities 29 Graduates Receive Diplomas on May 12, 1974 Preceding graduation there was a reception for the graduates, parents, and friends in the Student Union. Then at the ceremony the graduating class marched on the field to Pomp and Circum- stances. Reverend Jerry Davis of the Moorhead Methodist Church gave the invocation, and James Bassi, SGA president, made the welcoming state- ments. Presenting the special music One World was Lynne Ballou. After Dean Hoggs and Dean Thornton presented the candidates for graduation, Dr. Hall conferred the degrees. Mrs. Tolbert played the recessional War March of the Priests. Lynne Ballou Was Featured Soloist at Graduation special Services Recognize Nurses and Distinguished Students Initiation of thirty new members into Phi Theta Kappa, a national honor so- ciety, was held in the Tharp Auditorium on a warm spring evening in the month of May. The members of the society were selected in January by a Missis- sippi Delta Junior College committee. Requirements for initiation into Phi Theta Kappa were to be of good moral character and have a 3.5 or better average. Later in the month the graduating sophomores in the nursing program held their pinning ceremony in the audito- rium. After reciting the Florence Night- ingale Pledge, the students received their nursing pins from Mrs. Anne Eid- son, R.N. director. 32 Autumn Brings Glorious Whirlwinds of Leaves September September not only brought with it unseasonably cool winds but new faces to the M.DJ.C. campus. Amid the ex- citment of making new friends there were the beginnings of classes, movies in the union, and pep rallies led by the cheerleaders. Upon entering the Union one could see signs hanging from every nook and cranny containing slogans like TAME THE WILDCATS, and BEAT THE BULLDOGS meant to put spirit into the student body. The football game with Holmes Junior Col- lege was the highlight of the month. The game ended in an upset tie of 7 to 7. October October was ushered in amid the ex- citments of fairs, homecoming, Truth and football games. Many of the M.D.J.C. students filled their nights in the first of October with the thrills of county fairs and the beloved State Fair. Their weekends were one football game after another. If M.D.J.C. wasn ' t play- ing, they were either off to Ole Miss or (everyone ' s favorite) Mississippi State. Homecoming week brought along dances, floats, parades, and the pa- gentry of the festivities. Governor Bill Waller visited the campus the 23rd. To close the month was a Halloween co.s- tume contest in the Union and a dance afterwards. October was a month to remember. November BULLETIN DATELINE MOORHEAD Winter weather hits M.D.J.C. in November. Our first cold front of the school year hit the Moorhead campus, just in time for our last football game. The chill in the air made the spectators .shiver in the new aluminum bleachers of the stadium, but the chill only made tlie game more en- joyable. This weather ushered in the long awaited basketball season. The month started off as any u.sual month. Adam and Eve , which was a big suc- cess, was presented by the Fine Arts de- partment on Nov. 6,7, and 8. Tlien of course, there were the two movies— A Man (Called Horse and Puppet on a Chain . Lt. Governor William Winter vi.sited our campus on the 2()th. To end the month were the dearly beloved Thanksgiving Holi days. Registration was a time of great fear, anguish, and for some just plain boredom. For the incoming Freshmen it was a time that will never be forgotten. It would seem that walking through that line of strangers at the south end of the Voc- Tech corridor and seeing those uncompassionate faces was like walking to the point of no return. For the Sophomore it was a time to greet old friends that he had not seen all summer, while the line moved at a snail ' s pace pass the Business Manager ' s pay desk. To the Sophomore there was notliing frightening about the faces, teachers, or the funny little SOC, SEC signs. The Sophomore was well at home, but the Freshmen, well they lived through it. The Retrospect cover was done by Terry Lane. The type face in this yearbook is Caledonia 24 pt. headHnes, 14 pt. subhead, 10 pt. copy blocks, and 8 pt. captions. The overall theme is special effects. Spot color is used in the Retrospect. There is a new organizational approach taken in this vol- ume. We tried to cover all events from Feb. 1, 1974, to Feb. 1, 1975. We divided this up into spring, fall, and winter. Spring is represented by yellow, fall by red, and winter by blue. Paragon Press is our publishing company. The photography is done by Johnny Hales, Dale Stokes, and Mr. Les Lamb. Cartooning is by Obed and Charles Kline. I hope this yearbook will not be just another yearbook, but one of the best. Being the best is not done by layouts or copy. Prospects for 75-76 but by the rejection or acceptance of this book by the students. An editor cannot determine what everyone would like to be in- cluded in the Retrospect. I only hope that this year ' s Retrospect will serve its purpose of bringing back memories of a short time spent on the MDJC campus. 1 have tried to be careful, but everyone makes mistakes; so, if an error does exist, 1 apologize. I extend my thanks to Miss Wooten a great advisor, and to the students of MDJC. I thank you for your support, patience, and imderstanding, for without you, the students, this yearbook would be empty. I hope each and everyone of you enjoys the 1975 Retrospect and that all the worrying and work was worth it. . . . Anita Carter
