Mississippi SPORTS— page 19 FEATURES— page 33 ADMINISTRATION— page 59 CLASSES— page 77 ACTIVITIES— page 121 The span between 1927 and 1969 can be measured in more than mere years. For those forty-two years have witnessed not only the increase in curricula and collegiate crowd, but also a significant campus expansion. The arch itecture of the aging Administration building looks out upon a scene as youthful and modern as the tempo of the times. As the atmosphere of today ' s youth has taken on new lines and areas of dimension, so have the buildings which grace the MDJC campus. Five new structures — four built during the summer of 1968 — stand as evidence of the expanding role of the college in the lives of the mod Delta student. From the new concept of community living to the even newer concepts of community teaching, Mississippi Delta Junior College has become an example of the truly community college. . Three new buildings have provided ample space for the teaching techniques. The new vocational technical complex with its many areas of study gives many students the opportunity to pursue new and modern careers never before offered at Mississippi Delta. This new complex has provided space for Data processing, additional equipment for the business students, additional lab space and equipment for electronics technology and twelve new vocational courses. The Horton Science Building has provided space for the closed circuit educational T. Through not only the established offices of President and Public Relations but also through the expanded offices of Dean of Students, Vocational-Technical Co-ordinator, Director of Publicity, and Director of Publications, there has been an expansion of curricula and of teaching techniques. Expansion has also been aided by the reorganization and modernization of existing facilities. As a result of the efforts of the schools administration there has been a greater realization of goals, and, consequently, a greater fulfillment of purpose. 10 The students at MDJC today have a wider range of involvement than ever before. The new Vandiver Student Union is the pivot for the majority of student activities. Since the building houses both the cafeteria and the Trojan Grill, the Vandiver Student Union has become the center of congregation. From its center radiates the pulse of student life — the Student Council, the Sunflower Petals, the Retrospect. Through the activities which go on within Vandiver and through the congenial atmosphere it provides, the student acquires a sense of belonging. The skirts are shrinking just about as fast as the hair is growing longer. One thing that is always new to the freshman is the bright red beanie which covers the bald head. YY Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y 15 hedicaticn Every school has its dynamic personality. On every campus there is the man who wins the respect of all students. Here at Mississippi Delta Junior College that man is Jimmy Bell i pa n n i . Coach Jimmy has served as teacher and coach at MDJC for seventeen years. During that time he has guided students both on and off the athletic field. His principles of good sportsmanship have been evident in actions as well as in words. His service to the college as a teacher, dean of men, basketball and football coach, counselor, leader in the community, and loyal supporter of faculty sponsored activities is immeasurable. Fellow faculty members as well as students have valued his friendship and guidance. It is for that reason the staff of the 1969 RETROSPECT proudly dedicates this annual to him. 16 As coach looks intently upon the field, he thinks, If I ever get my hands on that guy, I ' m going to chew him up like this piece of grass. 18 COACH GRUBB TROJAN RECORD M.D.J.C 13; Colin 0 M.D.J.C 19; Ittawamba 0 M.D.J.C 14; Southwest 7 M.D.J.C 14; Northwest 38 M.D.J.C 7; Holmes 0 M.D.J.C 0; Perkinston 14 M.D.J.C 6; East Miss 7 M.D.J.C. 0; East Central 6 M.DJ.C 7; Jones 38 20 First Row: Wesley Springfield, Lee Owens, Murray Litton, Ronny Dodd, Gene White, Freddie Childs, Tommy Mullens Donnie Dickerson, Jimmy Dees, David Bariola, Robert Love, Allen Shaffer, David Stonestreet, and Roger Lamberson.
