It indifferently moves on, pausing not for any man. Invaluable time, never to be repeated throughout eternity, slips by. Whether used fruitfully or ivaste fully, once gone it is never to be regained. And so it is with time spent at Mississippi Delta Junior College. You were granted a time, a season and a place in which to adapt, to participate, to learn and to live. This time, with its achievements, disappointments, laughter and tears, has transpired. The knowledge you gained can be used in the future, for that ivas your basic purpose here, but the personal, intangible things can only be remembered. The months, days and hours at Mississippi Delta are recalled throughout these pages of the 1968 Retrospect. This ivas your Time. And A TIME For Every Purpose Under Heaven 5 A TIME To Begin A time to cast off the chains of the previous year and enter a new world with new faces and new ideas. A time to search for oneself and rely only upon some inborn instinct to find the map that will lead you, in the right direction for the quest of tomorrow. 6 A TIME To Participate A time to join hands in a search of truth. A time to answer the call of today in an exhibit of unhindered pride. A time not to be ashamed of another ' s hard work because it was for a common cause. A lime to ihink. A TIME For Gaiety A time to surround yourself ivith smiles and tears of joy. A time for companionship. A time to enjoy the sound of people at their best. A time to be alive with the wind as your guardian leading you on an endless journey past yesterday ' s carnival into tomorrow ' s universe. A TIME For Friendship A time to share your loneliness, sadness, joy, and achievements ivith one who cares. A time to open your heart in unselfish love. A time to mature and leave the unblemished child ' s p,ame for the eye to eye understanding of an unspoken word. A time to cherish the word friend. 14 A TIME To Compete A time to put your best foot forward. A time to meet an opposing foe whether it be mental or physical in a friendly or not so friendly manner. Under the direction of Mrs. Gorden Aden, they were commended on each performance. Bubbling spirit and initiative made this fine dance and precision drill team a credit to Mis- sissippi Delta Junior College. During the second semester the Deltettes traveled with the stage band and performed at civic clubs and high schools throughout the district. Mrs. Gordon Aden, Director Student Council Mr. Bill Bishop, Sponsor This past year the student council, under the sponsorship of Mr. Bishop, has done a commend- able job. They were responsible for our dance ;, elections, March of Dimes Powder Puff Derby, Twirp Week and other activities. They attended the Miss. Inter-collegiate council meeting at Mis- sissippi State University this year and host ed visit- ing students who were delegates from the Gulf Coast jr. colleges. Students of Mississippi Delta should appreciate the fine job they have done. 116 Studait Council Not pictured — Not pictured — BRENDA BROOKS RICHARD SWITZER Soph. Representative Boys Dorm. It is published monthly. The primary purpose for the Petals is to publicize school activities in a favorable light and to voice student complaints so as to im- prove conditions and relations between faculty and students. During this school year, the Petals has had no faculty advisor. Miss Laney Wooten, who is on a year ' s leave of absence, is the Petals advisor and journalism instructor. The editors and staff have had to compile and publish on their own this year except for proof-reading by Mr. Joiner and Mrs. Hughes with final approval by Mr. Marsalis. Staff cooperation first semester was limited and second semester found the staff streamlined to in- clude only those who were willing to give some of their time to the Petals. The Sunflower Petals is proud of its heritage and of its record in serving the students of Mississippi Delta Junior College and the people of the eight supporting counties. We only hope we have bene- fited this institution by having put forth our time and effort.
