DEDICATION A silent figure walks across campus. When spoken to, he replies with a smile. Behind that smile and unwavering blue eyes is a love for teaching, and a dedication toward inspiring his students to learn more than curriculum requirements. A man loved and admired by his students, he became almost a legend on campus. His classes were like no other math courses any had been in before. They learned his subject and knew their time had not been wasted at semester ' s end. Patience? — he was never observed with- out it. Understanding? — he understood, and he was the friend of many students who were unaware. Fairness? — there was no other way. A man who teaches, one who works to develop the minds of young adults, one who enjoys living. The face is that of Mr. J. D. Stonestreet, instructor of algebra and math- ematics for ten years at MDJC. To him we dedicate this 1964-1965 edition of the Retrospect.

Freshmen toll the Trojan Bell to boost our boys to another victory. Re imred beUringer attire? Pajamas. The cheerleaders literally burst onto the scene bringing pep and vitality to fans and players alike. From a clandestine, illegal early morning bull session lubricated with that ever- lasting last cup of bitter thrice-brewed coffee to a jostling, tedious ride on one of the MDJC buses which flow like rivulets to the mainstream of college from every portion of the Delta, student life encompasses and engenders an ever varying aura of endless occupation and tiring boredom; stunning failure and enrapturing con- quest; bleak reality and vague, comfortable euphoria. Student life can never be static or uneventful, for student life is people; and the people concerned are vibrant, climbing human beings, each with his own ration of life to influence in measureless manner all with whom he has contact. We have passed now the crossroads of life. We are here and by our residence we have shown that we have chosen the high road. Though this way is not without its milestones, the many years to be covered are all rocky and brush-strewn. The only good road will be that which we have ourselves paved well. That comfort is ever behind us. If we retread it, we stop, reverse, and descend. In these — the many, many ways of student life — we go our chosen ways.
